2012 PARAMEDIC CANDIDATE INFORMATION PACKET 1833 W. MAIN STREET, SUITE 105, MESA, AZ 85201 PHONE: 480-‐461-‐1806 FAX 480-‐461-‐1809 www.azemergency.com A FEW WORDS FROM OUR PROGRAM DIRECTOR……. Welcome, let me take this opportunity to introduce myself and the Arizona Academy of Emergency Services’ plan for success. My name is Jon Abrams, I have been in EMS for more than 12 years. I have worked private and public EMS, fire based and contract response systems, rural and urban environments. My background includes 12 years with National Disaster Medical System, 5 years helicopter flight experience, 4 years fixed wing experience, 2 years tactical medic experience, 2 years pediatric critical care experience, 5 years field training experience, and 8 years in EMS education including technical schools, community colleges and private programs. I currently hold a reserve Firefighter/Paramedic position with a local department. My philosophy that I strive to impart to our students is a simple one. There is no greater calling than to give of one’s self in service of another. To this end I have designed a program that focuses on patient care and outcomes versus testing and scores. I strive to provide clear goals and objectives to our students. Our instructors bring real world EMS experience to the classroom. Students are prepared for today’s EMS environment with emphasis placed on dealing long term with the pace, pressure, stress, and dangers of field work. Students are groomed to be adaptable. At AAES we use proven teaching methods to produce sound results. Teaching methods include lecture, video, online, hands-on, small group, and team building. Students are provided with the structure they require to be successful in this industry. AAES has built a first class clinical and vehicular program and is always expanding and reviewing the clinical components of our program. Through our clinical and vehicular partners AAES offers rotations that no other school can offer in Arizona. Students are taught more than just memorization skills and National Registry requirements. Students are exposed to the ‘big picture’ including community relations, communications, mass casualty incidents, and national service opportunities. The goal at AAES is to provide the community with top notch EMTs and Paramedics. AAES is always looking to the future as EMS is an ever evolving platform. AAES is well on the way to becoming a Nationally Accredited EMS Program. In closing let me say that my commitment is to the student and departments to provide the very best education available in Arizona or Nationally. I invite you to contact myself or my staff with any questions. Please come and visit our campus to see what Arizona Academy of Emergency Services can do for you.
