Patient preparation for MRI Enterography Magnetic Resonance Imaging (or MRI) produces detailed cross-sectional images of most parts of the body, using two naturally occurring forces to generate the images – magnetic fields and radio waves. Please follow these steps before coming to your MRI appointment at Mercy Radiology: 1. Due to the strong magnetic field of the scanner, some patients may not be able to have an MRI examination. Please contact us directly if you have the following: a. A cardiac pacemaker b. Cochlear implants c. Metal fragments in the eye d. Metal clips on blood vessels in the brain 5. If you are a diabetic, please bring with you any medications or food to be taken following your examination. 6. You may be given intravenous contrast at the time of your examination to enhance the visualisation of certain organs. Before administering any contrast agent, the staff will ask you if you have any known allergies. 7. You should allow at least 45 minutes for this procedure. 8. Please bring your referral form from your doctor or referrer. 9. Please make sure you arrive at least 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment time. 2. Do not eat or drink anything for 6 hours prior to your appointment. You may have sips of water only. If you have any questions regarding your MRI appointment, please do not hesitate to call us on 09 623 5858. We look forward to seeing you. 3. Continue to take all prescribed medication as usual, and bring a list of any medications you are currently taking to your appointment. The MRI Department 4. Please drink your three bottles of Volumen solution supplied as follows: a. The first bottle one and a half hours prior to your appointment b. The second bottle 40 minutes prior to your appointment c. The third bottle 20 minutes prior to your scan, when you are in the MRI Department. You can collect your Volumen solution from the MRI Department on the day before your appointment, or we can send it to you if required, provided we have enough notification. Note: If you have had a previous examination relating to this examination at another provider, you will need to bring these images with you.
