Brandon Ridenour met the Canadian Brass in 2005 as a trumpet student at the Music
Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, California. One year later, he joined the group at
the age of 20, becoming the youngest member in the ensemble’s 40-year history.
The same year, Brandon made his orchestral debut as soloist with the National
Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center’s 35th Anniversary Gala in Washington, DC.
He has been invited to perform with some of the world's leading ensembles, including
the International Contemporary Ensemble, the New York Philharmonic, and the Mahler
Chamber Orchestra in Europe.
As a soloist, Brandon has performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic in Walt Disney
Concert Hall, Brass Band of Battle Creek, Ensemble ACJW, the New Juilliard Ensemble,
Grand Rapids Symphony, Kalamazoo Symphony, and the American Academy of
Conducting Orchestra at the Aspen Music Festival. Brandon has appeared on numerous
occasions at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall, Zankel Hall, and Isaac Stern Auditorium, and most recently performed "Penny Lane"
alongside Sting and James Taylor for the celebration of Carnegie Hall's 100th Anniversary in 2011.
Brandon, the composer, received a honourable mention from ASCAP’s 2006 Morton Gould Young Composer Competition and, in
2006, he won the International Trumpet Guild solo competition performing his own composition, Sonata for Trumpet and Piano.
Brandon is an extremely prolific composer/arranger with more than 70 pieces to his name including several arrangements
featured by Canadian Brass on recordings and in concert.
As a member of the esteemed Canadian Brass, Brandon has performed with the San Francisco Symphony, New Jersey Symphony,
Toronto Symphony, National Arts Centre Orchestra, and in notable venues including the Concert Hall of National Centre for the
Performing Arts in Beijing, the Lucerne Concert Hall in Switzerland, and the Berlin Philharmonic Hall in Germany. As an active
teacher and educator, he has given numerous masterclasses around the world and was recently involved in a residency with El
Sistema, the acclaimed global music education program in Venezuela with the Brass. Brandon has recorded eight albums to date
for the Canadian Brass, which have featured his rich talents as both a performer and arranger. As part of the exclusive agreement
between Conn-Selmer and Canadian Brass, Brandon plays Bach Artisan Trumpets, (Bb, C, Eb, and Piccolo) a Bach Cornet
184ML and a Conn "Vintage One" (V1) Flugelhorn.
Born in New York and raised in Michigan, Brandon began
studying piano at the age of five with his father and trumpet
at the age of nine and throughout the years has frequently
performed as a father-son duo with pianist, Rich Ridenour. Brandon earned a Bachelor of Music degree from the Juilliard
School in 2007, studying with Ray Mase and Mark Gould and
is an alum of the Academy, a two year fellowship program of
Carnegie Hall, The Juilliard School, and the Weill Music
Institute. Brandon currently resides in Brooklyn, New York.
