His songs are inspired by the many challenges that life has placed in his way and he has transcended. Without measure, he incorporates his roots in traditional Haitian music, Vodou, as well as Pop, Jazz, and Blues. T’dòz has based, among other things, some rhythms of Haitian Vodou, such as Ibo which is associated with move- ments of freedom, Djouba, connected to the peasant world and the virtually untouched Nago rhythm which is used by the Dahome warriors of Benin. The vast musical dimension of the album renders it a work both unique and universal in the themes as love, peace, solidarity and respect for nature, decorated with lightweight pop. Ted G. Beaubrun aka “T’dòz” (pronounced Ti doze) was born in Ouanaminthe, Haiti and he came from the most prestigious musically and socially committed family on the island. He is the grandson of Theodore Beaubrun, one of the first prominent drummers in Haiti and son Theodore Beaubrun Jr. (nicknamed ‘Lolo’) and mother Mimerose (nicknamed ‘Manze’). In the 1970’s his parents created the group Boukman Eksperyans, known as the original “roots” (racine) music in Haiti . Naturally gifted, Ted wrote his first composition at the age of 6. A talented and self taught percussionist, he mastered several rhythms of Haitian Vodou drums and skillful determination earned him the privelege of joining his parents at the tender age of 12 and accompanying Boukman Eksperyans throughout their international tours. Ted musically enriched and contributed to the recording and videos sessions, and in doing so revealed his skills as an arranger and producer. Because of this, he became the main arranger for Boukman Eksperyans since 2008. Living in Geneva for many years, Ted managed to completed his engineering studies at ‘HES’, all while keeping to his vocation as a musician. While studying he made several albums as a producer, acquired internships and composed film music. His musical style? Vodou Pop! Steeped in culture and raised in music, T’dòz brings a new ‘world’ sound. A sound which is contemporary, and an avantgarde and innovative voice that rallies the rhythms of the rural areas of Haiti from vodou, pop and urban modernity, thereby creating “Vodou Pop “. T’dòz also draws upon peasant values and marks his commitment and respect for this population who still maintains conservative soulful African rhythms inherited during the time of slavery. Accomplished musician, composer of melodies, T’dòz sings with his vodou voice, where the sacred world of peasants call, accompanying himself on guitar or piano that sprinkled carefully with drums. Throughout his new identity, yet without denying the cultural and musical heritage of Boukman Eksperyans, T’dòz has created his own musical universe and conquered audiences with his musicality and his natural charisma.
