TAURA STINSON
SONGWRITER, PRODUCER
Taura Stinson is a veteran songwriter born in Birmingham, AL and raised in Oakland, CA.
She has penned songs for pop stars; such as Destiny’s Child, Kelis, Kelly Rowland, and Deborah
Cox; and has collaborated with Raphael Saadiq, Kanye West, and Andre 3000, amongst many
others. Additionally, she co-wrote the Grammy-nominated comeback single for Earth Wind & Fire,
“Show Me the Way,” on their album, Illumination. Taura and, her long-time writing partner,
Raphael Saadiq recently wrote and produced the song “Gonna Be Alright,” which was performed
by Steven Tyler (Aerosmith) for the animated film, Epic. They also wrote and produced the songs
for the musical film Black Nativity, starring Forest Whitaker, Jennifer Hudson, Angela Bassett,
Jacob Latimore, Mary J. Blige, Luke James, Tyrese, and Nas.
Taura has found her niche in the world where music and film meet. In addition to Black
Nativity and Rio, her songs have been featured in films such as Men In Black, The Sitter, Beauty
Shop, Deliver Us From Eva, and the upcoming Rio 2 (lead lyricist). Taura and Raphael were
nominated for the “Ashford and Simpson Songwriters Award” and also received a Grammy
nomination for their collaboration on their song, “Good Man,” on Saadiq’s Stone Rollin. Taura is
currently writing a novel and wrapping up Raphael’s next album.
Stinson’s influence is not limited to songwriting. As an A&R consultant, she was
instrumental in providing creative direction for Le’Andria Johnson’s debut album, which yielded
the Grammy winning record “Jesus.”
