The art of organ virtuoso, composer and Swedish Folk musician Gunnar Idenstam focuses at the point where different genres meet, and expresses how these genres influence and reinforce one another. Firmly grounded in the French tradition, his music and his arrangements, all of it played by memory, reach out in the directions of both folk music and symphonic rock music. Gunnar Idenstam has during the last year performed twice in the prestigious Mariinsky Theater Concert Hall in St Petersburg, in recent times in Moscow House of Music, Russia, in several countries in Europe and in the US. His transcriptions of Debussy's La Mer and the Bolero by Ravel are bringing down the houses at his concerts, and those works and Ravel's La Valse are to be included in his next solo CD on BIS Records. At the moment he is also transcribing Stravinsky´s Firebird for future concerts. His latest CD of his own music Jukkaslåtar/Songs for Jukkasjärvi is atmospheric folk/symphonic rock integrated with sami yoik and organ. ”…one of the most bittersweet, nostalgic, and life- affirming albums I have come across in a long time…” Audiofile Audition 2011
