Description:
Florin is an everbearer, as a result of a crossing between Everest and
Darselect. This Variety is the first new variety out of the breeding
program of Goossens Flevoplant. Marcel Suiker and his colleagues
started since 10 years now to find new strawberry varieties with a
good taste and with economical successful potentials. Florin grows
quite slow, which makes the variety strong for more extreme climate
circumstances during picking period. Also because of the slower
characteristic, the berries of this variety will keep their acceptable
sizes.
Growth:
The plant type and planting dates have a big influence at the picking
period. Tray plants or 40 cell trays, tipped in autumn can give you an
early peak in spring. Misted tips, when early tipped, also give you a
peak in spring, but this peak will be smaller and therewith the plant
can better keep the balance through the whole season. Bare rooted
plants will be later and will have the peak in August and September.
