Industrial Lublin
During the Industrial Revolution Poland was under foreign rule.
Lublin was located in the Russian zone. It was the largest city in
the western part of the Russian Empire.
As Lublin is a city of agriculture this is reflected in the
shape of the industry, with sugar, leather, flour, spirit, beer
and agricultural machine companies, as well as other
companies producing vehicles, cloths etc.
Krauze Mill
The water and steam powered mill in
Tatary was built in 1880-1881 to
replace an older, wooden mill.
In its days it was a very modern
construction, it was powered by two
water turbines and a steam engine,
as well as a back-up, electric engine.
In the second half of the 20th c.
the Bystrzyca river bed was diverted
and the mill was powered solely
by electric engines.
Its main building has remained virtually unchanged since its construction.
Currently, there is used by the factory food products.
Wolski Machine Factory
The factory was founded by two Scots in the late nineteenth
century, first produced specialized machinery. The factory
was closed in 1939 for economic reasons.
Wolski Machine Factory
Main building was falling into ruins by the mid
1990's, but it has since been restored and is now
used by a bank.
Perła Browary Lubelskie S.A.
The first breweries in Lublin, a merit Protestants of
German origin. Given the large amount of hops in
the region Vetter family has invested in the
production of beer. In 1864, production began in
Lublin. In the late nineteenth and early twentieth
centuries, the brewery received medals and awards
for quality in many international competitions.
Breweries still exist.
“Eternit” Factory
In 1912 the plant was built. Then search for cheap, yet easy
to manufacture and use of the material, which also seeks to
protect from fire.
Such material was asbestos cement. Its harm if they did not
know anything.
“Eternit” Factory
With all the building's
most eye-catcher was
water tower.
The whole roof was
covered with eternit.
Team building is used,
some of them have been
renovated.
Currently, there are
workshops.
The Lorry, Van and Car Factory
This is the largest factory that Lublin has ever had. Its
main expansion occured in the late 1940's, early 50's
when production was started on the Lublin-51 lorry.
Lorry Factory
The Lublin 51 was really
a Russian Gaz-51, itself
a modified Chevrolet.
In 1958 it changed
production to a light van,
the Zuk.
A 1980's Zuk van.
In 1990s the factory was purchased by the
company Daewoo Motor Poland, but after
few years the concern’s collapsed.
Lublin Sugar Factory
In 1894, industrialists and land owners from Lublin
set up a joint-stock association with an aim of
building a sugar factory in the city.
The building was designed to be not only practical but
also aesthetically appealing – the factory is one of
very interesting examples of industrial architecture
from late 19th century.
Why do we talk about sugar factory?
The plant operates as a symbol. As one of the few plants
survived the war period, the period of occupation.
It witnessed the transformation of political and social issues.
It was an important link in the agricultural industry region.
Removal of sugar caused a lot of opposition and resulted
in mass protests.
At the beginning refinery produced sugar loafs.
In time it began to produce crystal sugar, granulated
sugar and sugar cubes.
With the development of a sugar factory exports
increased substantially also supported the
development of railway traction. Products from Lublin
attracted the greatest interest in the Russian market.
With the passage of time the sugar factory which was
founded on the outskirts of the town was absorbed
by the newly established buildings.
Sugar Factory as one of the leading industrial establishments
supported the efforts of local communities.
Factory management financially supported the county library,
and built housing for the working class.
Unfortunately, the presence of this plant were related
to the negative effects. The stench, pollution of rivers
and air, blocking streets by commercial trucks have
been a great nuisance for the residents of Lublin.
In connection with the European Union first sugar
production has been reduced several times, and then by
the need to reduce the number of plants producing the
raw materials had to close it.
On 15th June, 2009 Mostostal Pulawy S.A.
has completed the disassembly of technological
appliances in Sugar Factory Lublin.
Currently, a this area is located candy factory, a gym and
a restaurant, and soon in this place commence the
construction of the city stadium.
„The constant effort to improve ourselves
is the most important element
of development.”
