Curs de ortodontie
- Orthodontic
seminars of California Dr. Larry Brown
BS DDS, University of Southern California
Data : 15 si 16+17+18 mai 2013
Locatie : Bucuresti, Hotel Caro.
Ore: 9:30 la 18:30 (2 coffee break + pranz)
Acest curs de 1+3 zile este structurat in prezentari (folosind materiale foto si video) si in workshopuri practice unde doctorii
participanti vor invata si intelege modalitatile in care functioneaza sistemul de tratament Dr. Larry Brown, utilizand Straight
Wire. Workshpurile sunt hands-on si includ demonstratii live.
Dupa succesul de la ultima prezentare din Romania, Dr. Brown revine cu un STUDY CLUB. Unde doctorii isi aduc propriile
“The Art of Modern Orthodontics – Creating Dazzling Smiles and Beautiful Faces”
Orthodontic Training Seminars - The Straight Wire Appliance
This 4-day course is organized with lectures, video, live demonstrations and workshops so that the participating
doctors will learn and understand how to use Dr. Brown’s system of Straight Wire Appliance orthodontic treatment.
May 15: The Straight Wire Appliance (SWA)
May 16, 17, 18: Treatment of CLIII cases
Day 1: May 15
The participating doctors will learn:
•
The correct techniques for SWA “direct bracketing” and for molar banding.
•
The various “bracketing schemes” that are used in treating different types of malocclusions in order to obtain the
desired result will be learned.
•
Discussion of the use of “ligating” and “self-ligating” brackets.
•
The arch wire system of the SWA:
1. The Heat Activated NiTi (HA NiTi) Wires use the lightest forces available today, are super elastic with superior
“memory” and obtain the best results. These are used for leveling and for finishing.
2. The 19x25 steel wire – “The working Wire” --- used during the phase where heavier forces are used.
3. How to place, fit and adjust the wires.
•
The many auxiliaries of the SWA are also placed (see below).
Hands-on Workshops:
•
Bracketing
•
Molar bands and molar tubes
•
Arch Wires (different types)– placing and adjusting
•
molar bend-backs
Video or live demonstrations:
•
various separators
•
ligature ties
•

•
There is instructional video showing these procedures on an actual patient, which also shows which instruments are
to be used.

1. “wire forming”
2. “wire torquing”
3. “de-torquing”
Hands-on Workshop:
1.
Adjusting the 19x25 steel wire as described above.
Days 2 - 4 May 16, 17, 18
Lecture:
Diagnosis, treatment planning and the mechanics used in the treatment of CLIII patients.
•
Young patients – mixed dentition and adolescent ages
•
Adult patients
•
Extraction cases: how to manage anchorage and space closure for a beautiful esthetic and occlusal result.
•
Surgical cases: how to differentiate a non-surgical case from a surgical case. Treatment planning – working
together with the surgeon.
The art of modern orthodontics - creating dazzling smiles and beautiful Faces
The treatment system of Dr. Brown:
Artistic, logical, simplistic and providing consistent and beautiful orthodontic and esthetic results.
Diagnosis for SWA therapy
1.
Combining the artistic approach with the scientific data.
2.
Combining the use of the 6 Traits of malocclusion with the Esthetic diagnosis.
Mechanical treatment planning
1.
The correct use of the SWA and its auxiliaries based on 30 years of experience.
2.
Using optimal “smart” forces (light, constant, Heat Activated) to reach our treatment goals.
Lecture:
Clinical case presentations:
Diagnostic analysis, treatment planning and mechanical treatment planning of many different patients with different types of
CLIII malocclusion.
•
Mixed dentition ages CLIII
•
Adolescent ages CLIII
•
Adult ages CLIII.
These cases will demonstrate the time-tested, systematic and logical approach to patient treatment using Dr.
Brown’s system of SWA orthodontics.
There will be an explnation on the biomechanics and the use of CLIII intra-oral elastics for the correction of CLIII
malocclusions and for space closure in extraction cases.
“Special elastics” for specific situations such as settling-in the occlusion or closing-down an open bite.
Biomechanics of CLI forces - CLI intra-maxillary forces used for space closure.
All participants will receive a comprehensive syllabus on elastic therapy for future reference.
Hands-on workshop – the placing of:

Lecture and Workshop:
•
Discussion of the use of the “Heat Activated Nitanium (NiTi) Trans-palatal Molar Rotator” for palatal
expansion and molar rotation in CLIII cases.
1. These are pre-fabricated, easy to place and require no adjustment once they are in place,
2. Biomechanically provide an “optimal, light and constant force”
Workshop on the typodont:
•
Placing a “Heat Activated Nitanium (NiTi) Trans-palatal Molar Rotator”
Diagnosis, treatment planning and problem solving during the treatment of young patients and adults:
For the last hour of Days 2, 3, 4, the participating doctors have a chance to discuss their personal cases, either new
cases or cases “in progress”. Each participating doctor in the course can bring 1 of their own cases for consultation and
personal help from Dr. Brown. Certain of these cases, chosen by Dr. Brown because of their interesting features, will
be projected on the Screenso that everyone in the group can benefit from the discussion.
If time permits, Dr. Brown will give personal consultation for additional cases.
All can benefit from Dr. Brown’s 30 years of experience using of the SWA.
In order for Dr. Brown to be able to give a correct diagnosis and the proper help, the doctors are asked to bring a USB
stick/Pen drive with the necessary facial photos (front and profile, natural lip position and smiling), photos of the 5 views of
the study models, cephalometric x-ray and tracing, panoramic x-ray. If the photos are with brackets already in place, please
provide the necessary written info as to what bracketing scheme was used and the wires or other types of appliances that
are in place at the time of the photos.
The doctors are also asked to provide a written description of the important findings of each case, a general “Global
Treatment Plan” and to provide a more detailed month by month Treatment Plan. This exercise is important for the
education of the doctor.
During this part of the course, Dr Brown could project on the screen examples of his personal cases to help the doctors
visualize the treatment mechanics needed in their own cases.
Types of cases that can be discussed:
•
Young patients – mixed dentition and adolescent
•
Adult patients – extraction and non-extraction
•
Maxilo-facial Surgical combined with orthodontics
During the discussion of these various clinical cases by Dr Brown, most of the following subjects will be discussed:
The basic theory on « Human Growth Patterns » and the “development of orthodontic problems”
“The Esthetic Diagnosis” of Dr Brown
“Study model” evaluation
The Cephalometirc x-ray and tracing analysis
The basics of the biomechanics involved in the treatment
The details of the actual mechanical treatment of the patient
The potential problems to watch out for during the treatment
Finishing the case to obtain an optimal occlusion along with an esthetic harmony of the face, jaws and teeth.
The “mechanics” used to obtain an optimal occlusion along with an esthetic harmony of the face, jaws and
teeth:
