Welcome to San Diego Junior
Theatre’s 67th Season —
SOARING TO NEW HEIGHTS!
We’re Creepy and we’re Kooky… and (probably) altogether Ooky! Thus
the launch of our 67th Season—and that’s only the beginning! We’ll
take you on a theatrical ride to meet a girl who fancies herself, to get
to know a brother and sister who befriend dinosaurs, and to join four
siblings as they discover a magic land through a wardrobe! Leap tall
buildings with your favorite super hero, take a visit with the unlikeliest
of friends in a spider and a small pig, and then shake it up with your
favorite Elvis Presley hits!
Where else can such thrilling tales all explode in one season?
San Diego Junior Theatre, of course! We are never ones to rest on
our laurels. We love to discover new journeys together and to create
innovative ways to tell old stories—and always leave you wanting to
come back for more!
As the new Artistic Director of this wonderful organization, nothing
excites me more than watching our young performers apply the
necessary tools and techniques to the art of theatre, while learning
the deeper and more important lessons of discipline, respect, and
bonds of friendship that they will carry with them throughout the
rest of their lives.
What a glorious experience for me to be a part of this rich and
diverse family. Yes, we are a family (Addams and otherwise) and like
a family, all are welcome!
RAYME SCIARONI

OFf-PARK TheaTRE SERIes
AT RoOsevElt
New for this season! San Diego Junior Theatre has created our own
version of an “Off-Broadway” theatre experience, through a continuing
partnership with neighboring Roosevelt Middle School. LESS THAN a
mile away from the Casa del Prado, and a world away in theatrical
experiences, San Diego Junior Theatre’s Off-Park series is your ticket
to newer, edgier, and more experiential productions: Shakespeare,
classic literary pieces, and new plays are among the ways students
will look at ideas in a fresh new way. In this smaller and lowerkey environment, there are opportunities to investigate new acting
techniques, tap new sources of creativity, and hone skills. This exciting
new series promises to be a well-known staple of a fine alternative
theatrical experience for students and audiences alike.
Maricela de la Luz
Lights the World
November 14-23, 2014
Off-Park Theatre Series at Roosevelt
By José Rivera
Suitable for All Ages. A JT Premiere!
A few days before Christmas, as Maricela
de la Luz and her brother Riccardo come
out of a San Diego mall, the world suddenly
changes. It starts off slowly. First it’s the
unexplainable snowfall. Then it’s all the
adults disappearing. Then it’s the polar
bear that appears out of nowhere, followed
by the penguins. On this magical and
unusual journey the children learn the
meaning of heroism and commitment.
Flight of the Lawnchair Man
February 6-15, 2015
Off-Park Theatre Series at Roosevelt
Book by Peter Ullian
Music and Lyrics by Robert Lindsey-Nassif
based on a Concept by Robert Lindsey-Nassif
Recommended for Ages 12 and Older. A JT Premiere!
Jerry Gorman is a regular guy from Passaic, New Jersey, who just wants to fly.
The neighbors think he's nutty and his mother disapproves. But his girlfriend
Gracie believes in him. Loosely based on a true story, Jerry soars to 16,000 feet
with nothing but a lawnchair and 400 helium balloons. This is a musical that
reminds us that dreams can come true if you believe in yourself.
Flight of the Lawnchair Man was first presented at the National Alliance for Musical Theatre’s Festival of New Musicals in 2004.
Presented through special arrangement with, and all authorized performance materials supplied by, Theatrical Rights Worldwide
(TRW), 1359 Broadway, Suite 914, New York, NY. 10018. Phone 866-378-9758. www.theatricalrights.com.
Much Ado
About Nothing
March 27 - April 5, 2015
Off-Park Theatre Series at Roosevelt
Written for the Stage by William Shakespeare
Recommended for Ages 10 and Older.
For Claudio and Hero, it’s love at first sight, while Benedick and Beatrice have
been at each other’s throats since before the war that took the men away
from the Italian town of Messina. When the lovers decide to play a prank to
get their friends to fall in love, Don John decides to kill the mood, attempting
to sabotage the lovers’ relationship less than a week before their wedding.
This classic Shakespeare comedy shows how the game-playing and plotting
of a noble family leads to fun, intrigue, and silly misunderstandings.
