Mary Carrick – Bio Mary Carrick is a dynamic singer whose agile voice and evocative interpretation harnesses an impressive stylistic range. Raised in a small Midwest community, her musical parents owned and operated a restaurant. As a young girl, she remembers live combos playing in the restaurant lounge, customers feeding the jukebox, and the sounds of rollicking piano in the house. Today, she's a multi-‐faceted and versatile performer who is equally at home with cabaret, musical theater, opera, jazz, art song, and contemporary styles and as a stage actor. She’s known for her lush and shimmering vocals, her theatrical prowess and for her unique ability to truthfully interpret a song, connect with audiences and command the stage. She’s a fearless singer who can deliver a lyric and melody with warmth and sensitivity as well as turn a song on its heels. In 2014 Mary will release her album, Let’s Fly, which features a collection of songs spanning great American standards, familiar and unfamiliar musical theater, jazz, folk and country with reimagined arrangements and fresh takes on classics. The album is a collaboration with J. Gawf, resident music director of Opera Omaha. Mary maintains an active performance schedule with arts organizations, cabaret venues and theatres across the Midwest, as well as for special events. She made her Chicago cabaret debut in 2012 at the city’s well-‐
known cabaret venue, Davenport’s with her show, On My Way. She was a participant in the 2013 Midwest Cabaret Conference, held in Chicago, led by renowned entertainers Sally Mayes (Tony award nominee), Lina Koutrakos, Rick Jensen and Beckie Menzie. She has also studied with Tony award-‐winning singer and actress, Betty Buckley, both as a private student and as a participant in Ms. Buckley’s Song Interpretation and Monologue Workshops held in Chicago and New York. Mary makes her home in Omaha, Nebraska where she's a familiar face across the metropolitan area. She’s performed on stage of the Holland Performing Arts Center, Orpheum Theater, and with Opera Omaha, the Omaha Symphony, Rose Theater, one of the largest professional children’s theaters in the country, among many others theaters. She’s received numerous awards and award nominations for her work, including the 2013 Omaha Entertainment & Arts Award for her role as “Sour Kangaroo” in the Rose Theater’s production of Seussical: The Musical. She received critical acclaim and multiple award nominations for her performance at the Rose Theater as “Mother Abbess” in The Sound of Music.
