Zapaleni.org is a group of madmen connected with the artistic circles of Lublin, who in
February 2012 started a project together. The role of its coordinator was accepted
by Dariusz Jeż, an actor known in Lublin from his roles in the performances by InVitro
Stage and neTTheatre. The aim of the group is to engage people who are excluded from
the society for many reasons (illness, homelessness, disability, imprisonment) in artistic
and cultural activity.
The first project includes cooperation with the inmates of the prison in Opole Lubelskie.
Workshops started in June 2012 in carefully selected groups which worked on the
preparation of the performance “Midsummer’s Night Dream” directed by Joanna Lewicka.
Participants of the projects are prisoners, many of whom were sentenced to a long time in
prison. Some of them work also on the stage design for the performance (workshops
conducted by Jacek Fijałkowski). Costumes were designed by a famous Lublin designer, El
Bruzda.
The entire project came to life mainly thanks to Janusz Opryńskim, director of the Festival

Theatre Confrontations, and with outstanding help and cooperation of Zbigniew Drożyński,
warden on the Opole prison.
“Prisoners led by Joanna Lewicka read Shakespeare’s comedy anew, perfectly combining
the experience of prison with the original text. They proved themselves as actors,
presenting a real comedy talent and for sure they were the most important heroes of the
evening.
