Short Synopsis
Wild is the story of one woman who sowed the seed of change...
It tells the extraordinary and uplifting true story of Irishwoman Mary Reynold’s
journey from rank outsider to winner of a Gold Medal at the Chelsea Flower Show.
Mary grew up with a strong affinity to the environment and a belief that somehow it
was her destiny to use her talent as a designer to put environmental issues centre
stage. Wild follows her journey from naive and impressionable ingenue to a
impassioned and pioneering deisgner. Along the way, she gathers a team of
eccentric and unconventional artisans whom she believes fully understand her
vision and the are only ones who have the ability to execute her plan for a wild
garden at the Chelsea Flower Show.
As this rag tag and bobtail crew begin their work in the intensively competitive but
uniquely conservative and establishment atmosphere of Cheslea, the other
competitors are amused at their methods and sneer at her crew of ‘hippies’. Soon
however they realise that unconventional does not mean uncompetitive, and are
forced to reassess their view when ultimately she triumphs and takes the top prize.

Wild is a biopic which tells the inspiring true story of Mary Reynolds, a young Irish
landscape designer, who despite huge personal and professional obstacles, won a
Gold Medal at the 2002 Chelsea Flower Show. It was inspired by her freethinking
commitment to preserving the environment and our wild heritage, an approach
which put her at odds with the hidebound conventions of the Chelsea hierarchy
but won the hearts of both judges and the public.
The natural environment is at the centre of this story. The film’s subject matter
presents an Irish perspective on the critically important climate change debate, in
an accessible and uplifting manner.

Long Synopsis
From the wilds of the west of Ireland to drought ravaged Ethiopia and eventually
the claustrophobic atmosphere of London’s Chelsea Flower, WILD is a romantic and
uplifting underdog story with an ecological theme. It tells the true, victory-againstall-odds story of Mary Reynolds - a brilliant young Irish landscape designer, who, with
no money and no powerful connections, wins the much-coveted gold medal at the
“Olympics of Gardening” - the Chelsea Flower Show – beating Prince Charles into
second place.
Mary, an artistic Irish country girl, moves with trepidation to Dublin. She is treated like
Cinderella by her first employer, Charlotte, a conniving rock-chick florist. A skilled
self-promoter, Charlotte passes off Mary’s unique landscape designs as her own to
her movie and rock star clients. Mary, awkward and ill-at-ease, is in awe of
Charlotte and her scene.
As well as giving Mary a “real politik” education on social climbing, Charlotte
unwittingly does Mary one life changing favour – she takes her to the Olympics of
Gardening – the famous Chelsea Flower Show – a mecca for green-fingered
celebrities and royalty alike. Mary dreams of changing the world through her
ecological landscape designs, but when Charlotte suddenly marries the richest
man in England, Mary is out of a job and broke.
Naively impassioned, Mary seeks to blaze her own trail by entering the Chelsea
Flower Show with her Celtic Sanctuary design - a mystical wild garden which
promotes the retention of natural habitats. But the stuffy Chelsea Administrator
responsible for admissions repeatedly refuses to send her an application form.
Through ingenuity, kindness and a few blatant lies, Mary’s garden is selected as one
of only eight to compete at Chelsea out of more than 2,000 applications
worldwide. But with the competition deadline fast approaching, Mary can find
neither the necessary sponsorship of £250,000, nor a contractor with the rare skills to
build her Celtic Sanctuary.
In a West Cork wild flower sanctuary, Future Forests, Mary finds the only man who
can help build her Chelsea dreams. He is none other than the handsome,
charismatic botanist Christy, a mesmerizing musician she first saw at a Charlotte’s
party.
Mary desperately pitches her project to Christy and his crew - the Green Angels –
New Age dropouts who are based in West Cork. In an effort to get reluctant,
cynical Christy on side, she enthralls his hippie king father, Mike, with her “wild”
design, and her passion to wake the world up to retain what few natural habitats

are left.
Christy, irritated by his father’s infatuation with Mary, remains unimpressed by her
cause, committed only to his irrigation projects in drought-stricken Ethiopia. The two
clash. Christy believes Mary to be naïve and celebrity seeking and won’t let his
Green Angel crew work on her project. Christy’s philandering and his lack of faith in
her plan causes emotional havoc for Mary, she is devastated. But something in
Mary refuses to give up.
She impulsively follows Christy to Ethiopia in the hope of getting him back to fulfill
her Chelsea dreams. Once in Ethiopia, Mary encounters man-made environmental
disaster at close range, and is shaken beyond her own ambition.
Sadly, she gives up on Chelsea and throws herself into Christy’s oasis build. Mary
redesigns the plans, and together she and Christy build the Lalibela oasis as a
model for arresting desertification. Christy’s grows to respect Mary’s Gaia-spirited
designs as well as Mary herself. And so, Christy finds himself in love for the first time;
he plans their future together in Ethiopia.
But for Mary, a mountaintop epiphany above the desert leads her back to her
destiny.
Emboldened by the Ethiopian experience, she draws back from Christy emotionally,
realizing he must now prove himself worthy as she has proven herself to him. At the
eleventh hour, Mary secures Christy’s support for her Chelsea bid.
The two return to Ireland, frenzied by the fast approaching Chelsea deadline.
Miraculously, just enough money is secured to compete, but Mary now faces the
problems of transporting a sheep field, 500 wild plant species, 200 year old
hawthorns and tons of ancient stone wall from Cork to London.
These difficulties are small compared to managing the hippie crew, Christy’s
eccentric father, dying plants and water disinfectant. These problems are
compounded by malevolent competitor Charlotte, and the spiteful snobbery of the
Chelsea Administrator. After repeated threats of disqualification, Mary’s unique
wild garden magically comes to life.
The night before judging, romance finally blossoms between Mary and Christy
along with the ancient Irish hawthorns. In joyous disbelief, Mary wins a gold medal,
beating Prince Charles into the silver. Through the Prince’s gracious influence, Mary
becomes the first designer for 250 years since Capability Brown, to have her own
wild garden built at the famous Royal Kew Gardens.
And so Mary Reynolds, an Irish country girl, made gardening history. She proved that
nature cannot be contained – it is wild.

Biographies
Vivienne DeCourcy – Director/Writer
Vivienne De Courcy was inspired to write the script for WILD after meeting Mary
Reynolds in 2006 on the design of her own garden in West Cork. WILD became the
first part of the EARTH TRILOGY, the second and third of which are the sci-fi dramas
TREE and BREATHE.
After graduating in law from UCD in Dublin, Vivienne obtained a doctorate in
Jurisprudence at IIT Chciago, with a concentration in corporate finance and
construction law, and was admitted to the Illinois Bar. She became a corporate
finance attorney in Chicago, working on mergers and acquisitions, venture
capital, leverage buyouts, and large scale loans for Lord, Bissell and Brook lawfirm,
and finally, a major financial institution, Allstate, where she represented the lead
lender on international transactions including financing such global Irish companies
Smurfit Industries and CRH.
She also worked for The Brain Research Foundation putting on art exhibitions such as
Art and the Brain, Chicago. In 1998, retired from law, she wrote, directed and
produced her first independent film, Fiona’s Fortune, which enabled her to become
a member of the Director’s Guild of America.
Having written creatively for over 15 years, from poetry to articles, she put her
writing and problem solving skills to political speechwriting, ultimately working on
the 1992 Clinton Campaign for the Head of Advance.
In 2001 she returned to Dublin after 16 years putting deals together in the US. She
continued practising law, and is now putting her transactional expertise and wide
financial connections into producing WILD. She directed Little Mary, the Teasor,
which enabled her to raise funding for the film along with a mock up of the original
Celtic Sanctuary garden and a rough cut of out-takes which will be used in the film
to demonstrate the magnitue of Mary Reynolds task and the extrodinary nature of
the Olympics of Gardening – the Chelsea Flower Show.
Sarah Johnson Redlich, Executive Producer
A former Portfolio Manager at Franklin Templeton, Ms. Redlich left the financial
services firm to launch Spike & Annie, a children's clothing company. Educated at
St. Lawrence University and the University of San Francisco, Ms. Redlich has
dedicated herself to education, science, and conservation. She recently
spearheaded the drive to build a $40M state-of-the-art science facility for St.
Lawrence. A Trustee of St. Lawrence, she has also served as Vice-Chair of the
Capital Campaign, and served as Vice-Chair of the Architecture and Physical
Plant. Ms. Redlich advances science-based environmental legislation as the Chair,
National Affairs and Legislation, for the Hillsborough Chapter of the Garden Club of
America. At Conservation International, she is a member of the Chairman's Council.
Ms. Redlich also serves in an advisory capacity at the board level for other nonprofit organizations. Film Credits include The Invisible War, The Devil’s Knot and The

Rebecca O’Flanagan, Robert Walpole Producers
Rebecca and Rob jointly run Treasure Entertainment. Their most recent productions
include Phil Harrisson’s The Good Man, Lisa Barros D’Sa and Glenn Leyburnn’s BAFTA
nominated Good Vibrations and Primeval Series 5. Other credits include My
Brothers, TV series Your Bad Self, The Eclipse which screened in competition at
Tribeca Film Festival winning Best Actor for Ciaran Hinds. The Film also won Best
European Film at The Sitges Film Festival (2009) and Best Film at the Irish Film and
Television Academy Awards (2010). The also prduced he award wining television
series The Running Mate and the films Shrooms, The Mighty Celt, Man About Dog,
Saltwater and I Went Down. In 2013 Treasure Entertainment produced John Butler’s
first feature comedy The Stag, which remiered at the Toronto International Film
Festival. They also executive produced Ivan Kavanagh’s horror The Canal, which
premiered at Tribeca Film festival this year.
Colm Mac Con Iomaire, Composer
Colm Mac Con Iomaire is a Musician /Composer from Dublin resident in Co.
Wexford. He is a founder member of Irish band The Frames. He joined the band in
1990 having first met Glen Hansard while busking on Grafton Street. He has travelled
the world many times over since then with The Frames.
Colm is best known as a violinist but is also a talented multi-instrumentalist. In 2008 he
released his critically acclaimed first solo Album- 'The Hare's Corner'.
Instrumental music is Colm's main interest.
His music draws on a wide range of styles and influences ranging from classical to
traditional music, though his own music has a unique sound all of it’s own.
In recent years he has also been scoring music for TV and Theatre and “Wild” is his
first feature film.
He is currently working on a new album of his own which he plans to release later in
the year.
Consolata Boyle, Costume Designer
Consolata Boyle was born in Dublin, Ireland. She is a costume designer and
producer, known for The Queen (2006), The Iron Lady (2011) and Philomena (2013).
In 2007, she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Costume Design and a
BAFTA Award for Best Costume Design for The Queen. Boyle was the winner of the
best costume design award from the Irish Film and Television Awards for both
Angela’s Ashes (1999) and The Iron Lady (2011).

Ferdia Murphy, Production Designer
Based in Dublin, Ferdia trained at Central Saint Martin's College of Art and Design in
London. Designing for both screen and stage, in 2007 he became the first
production designer in Ireland to ever receive the prestigious Honorary
Scenographer award from the International Organisation of Scenographers, Theatre
Architects and Technicians (OISTAT).

Cathal Watters, Director of Photography
Cathal's love of photography began at age 10 when he started to process his own
film. After receiving a BA in Drama and Theatre from Trinity College Dublin he went
on to shoot the news and current affairs projects. He later began shooting and
directing award-winning documentaries, including Muide Éire, Dhá Chuirt, One
Million Dubliners and won an IFTA for the series Jockey Eile. He has shot many award
winning shorts including Rolla Saor and Shimmy Marcus' Rhinos and has also
directed and shot a number of award-winning music videos.
Cathal currently works mainly on films, music videos and commercials. Last year he
was director of photography on his first feature, Dare to be Wild, and has two more
feature films in pre-production.

Emma Greenwell (Mary Reynolds)
Emma has most recently been seen playing the recurring role of MANDY
MILKOVICH in SHAMELESS USA on More4 and on an arc of TRUE BLOOD for HBO.
Recent credits include the third series of SHAMELESS, the independent feature, THE
HOLY GHOST PEOPLE which screened at SXSW Festival and LAW AND ORDER SVU.
Emma can next be seen playing the lead role in the independent feature, WILD.
Tom Hughes (Christy Collard)
Having already worked with some of the best writers, directors and actors in the
industry, Tom’s expanding CV showcases his range and positions him as one of the
most sought after young actors working today. Since graduating from RADA in
2008, Tom has been BIFA nominated and featured in the prestigious Screen
International’s ‘Stars of Tomorrow’. This autumn, Tom will star in the upcoming BBC
America espionage thriller series, THE GAME, in which he leads a stellar cast
including Brian Cox, Paul Ritter, Shaun Dooley and Chloe Pirie.
2013 was a busy year for Tom with a starring role in a new adaptation of the 1938
Hitchcock movie, THE LADY VANISHES, opposite Tuppence Middleton and Keeley
Hawes. Tom starred in Poliakoff’s award-winning series DANCING ON THE EDGE, with
Chiwetel Ejiofor, Matthew Goode and Jaqueline Bisset. He also took a role in the
Richard Curtis film About Time, supporting Rachel McAdams, Bill Nighy and
Domhnall Gleeson.
Tom’s film credits include the 2010 Mat Whitecross’s Ian Dury biopic, SEX & DRUGS &
ROCK N ROLL in which Tom took the role of bandmate ‘Chaz Jankel’ opposite Andy
Serkis. Tom then went on to star in the Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant debut
feature film CEMETERY JUNCTION, for which Tom received a BIFA Award nomination
for ‘Most Promising Newcomer’.
On stage Tom was most recently seen in the critically acclaimed Donmar
Warehouse production of VERSAILLES, directed by Peter Gill. In 2010 Tom took a
leading role in the Young Vic production of Arthur Schnitzler’s SWEET NOTHINGS
directed by Luc Bondy.
Other notable credits include, David Hare’s PAGE EIGHT opposite Bill Nighy and
Rachel Weisz, and Rupert Goold’s RICHARD II appearing opposite Ben Whishaw,
Rory Kinnear and Patrick Stewart. Tom has also had principal returning roles in two
major BBC television productions, legal drama SILK in 2011 and CASUALTY 1909 in
2009. In 2013 Tom starred in Chiwetel Ejiofor’s recent directorial debut, the short film
COLOMBITE TANTALITE which is currently touring festivals, including the Seattle Film
Festival and Palm Springs ShortFest. Tom also fronted the Burberry A/W campaign in
2009 alongside Emma Watson and Douglas Booth.

Christine Marzano (Charlotte “Shah”)
Christine Marzano is best know for her roles in SEVEN PSYCHOPATHS alongside Colin
Farrell, PARANOIA with Harrison Ford and Gary Oldman and BYZANTIUM directed by
Neil Jordon. From Brooklyn, NY, she graduated with honors from Princeton
University.
She is also an alumnus of London Shakespeare conservatory, the British Academy of
Dramatic Art, has appeared on stage in various theatrical productions in New York
and is an established model.
Janie Dee (Marigold)
Janie is an award-winning British actress, singer and musical theatre performer. Her
career embraces everything from Shakespeare at the Royal Shakespeare
Company and The Globe, to acclaimed performances in modern dramas and
comedies, and leading roles in classic musicals. In addition, she regularly performs
her own witty and sophisticated cabaret and she was featured in the 'Divas at the
Donmar' season.
Janie is increasingly expanding her work in film and television and has made three
films this year, including feature films 'Wild', written and directed by Vivienne
Decourcy and 'The Trouble With Dot and Harry', opposite Neil Morrissey, written
and directed by Gary Walkow.
Janie won the three most prestigious awards in British Theatre; the Olivier Award,
the Evening Standard Award and Critics Circle Awards for Best Actress in a Play, as
well as the Obie and Theatre World Best Newcomer Award in New York, for her
hilarious and heartbreaking performance as Jacie Triplethree in Alan Ayckbourn's
'Comic Potential'. Most recently she has won the TMA UK Theatre Award
2013 for Best Performance in a Musical for her performance as Dolly Levi in 'Hello,
Dolly!' at the Curve, Leicester.

Alex McQueen (Nigel Hogg)
Macqueen was educated at Durham University where he received a first in English
literature. He went on to study for an M.Phil at Pembroke College, Cambridge,
graduating in 1998. He was a member of the National Youth Theatre between 1992
and 1995 before spending several years as criminal barrister at Middle Temple
before turning to acting full time.
Since then, Alex has played central roles in two of the most successful comedies of
the 21st Century - as Julius Nicholson in Armando Ianucci's THE THICK OF IT and IN
THE LOOP and as Kevin Sutherland in THE INBETWEENERS. Other notable television
credits include Julia Davis' HUNDERBY for Sky Atlantic, Hat Trick's KROD MANDOON,
Shane Meadow's THIS IS ENGLAND: 1988 and Channel 4's award-winning BLACK
MIRROR.
On film, Alex played the starring role in Film4's THE HIDE for which he received an
Evening Standard Best Actor nomination. Other film credits include Woody Allen's
YOU WILL MEET A TALL DARK STRANGER, Chris Morris' FOUR LIONS, GAMBIT opposite
Colin Firth & Cameron Diaz and Warner Bros' JACK THE GIANT SLAYER.
Alex will next be seen in Disney's CINDERELLA directed by Kenneth Branagh and
Paulo Sorrention's THE YOUTH. He is currently filming POMPIDOU opposite Matt Lucas
for BBC1.
Lorna Quinn (Eve)
Lorna Quinn graduated from University College Cork with a B.A Hons in English,
Drama and Theatre Studies. Following this, she went on to train full time at The
Gaiety School of Acting. Lorna is also a qualified Speech and Drama teacher with
The Leinster School of Music and Drama.
Film and television credits include the role of 'Eve' in DARE TO BE WILD, a new feature
film written and directed by Vivienne DeCourcy (Due for release in 2014), the role of
'Elaine' in LOVE/HATE and the role of 'Lucy Mallon' in Fair City.
Theatre credits include The Games People Play by Gavin Kostick with RISE
Productions, in which Lorna played the role of ‘Niamh’ (Winner of ‘Best New Play at
The Irish Times Theatre Award 2014), The Bridge Below The Town by Pat McCabe with

Alaa Saafi (Imad)
Alaa was born and raised in France to Moroccan parents. He started practicing
Taekwondo as a child. By the age of 18 Alaa was a high level martial artist with
several international titles, including Taekwonmudo World Champion in 2002. His
acrobatic and fighting skills took him to Thailand, where he trained with a
professional stunt team for two years. Back in Paris, Alaa attended the "International
Theatre School of Blanche Salant & Paul Weaver." Meanwhile, he began working as
an actor and pursued a regular training, following acting and physical theatre
workshops (e.g. led by Julie Stanzak from Pina Bausch's company).
Since the age of 21, Alaa was cast in action films such as "Traitor," drama series
("Pour elle", "Un baiser papillon") and comedies ("Le Missionnaire", "10 jours pour
s'aimer") alongside actors such as Don Cheadle, Vincent Lindon and Elsa
Zylberstein. His diverse experience allowed him to participate in the Auber Opera
"La Muette de Portici" directed by Emma Dante.
In 2012, Alaa faced his childhood hero in a duel, when cast as Jackie Chan's
antagonist in "Chinese Zodiac 12", his latest action blockbuster that won the 2013
Hong Kong Film Award for Best Action Choreography. More recently, Alaa played
The Moorish Prince in "Outcast" with Hayden Christensen and Nicolas Cage. He then
won the Best Male Actor Award at the Festival National du Cinéma D'Hyères les
Palmiers for his performance as the lead in French film "Taureau Taureau".
Alaa speaks French, English, Arabic and Italian fluently, and also studied Spanish
and Thai. He is based in Paris and has worked with French, American, Thai, Chinese,
Italian, Indian, and Moroccan filmmakers and stage directors.
