Sanofi-aventis Launches Teen
Acne Awareness Program and
Web Site
Web Site Provides Expert Advice and Answers to
Acne-Related Questions
Bridgewater, NJ- May 1, 2008 — With acne being one of the most common skin diseases
affecting nearly 80 percent of people between the ages of 12 and 24, Dermik Laboratories,
a business of sanofi-aventis, today announced the launch of AcneHeroes.com, a new Web
site designed to educate teens and parents about the condition and provide answers to
their acne-related questions and skincare tips.
To launch the Web site, sanofi-aventis, the makers of BenzaClin® (clindamycin 1%
benzoyl peroxide 5% topical gel), have teamed up with “Hannah Montana” star Cody Linley
and renowned dermatologist, Dr. Jessica Wu, to kick-off their acne teen awareness
program. Acne can be a challenge for teens especially during social milestones such as
the prom and back-to-school season. There are a lot of photo memories created during
these big moments and teens are often concerned about their appearance. Cody Linley,
who plays Jake Ryan on the hit TV show, has experienced acne breakouts and
understands the importance and power of acne education for teens.
“Since I spend so much time in front of the camera, I feel added pressure to have clear
skin,” says Linley. After seeking the right treatment from a dermatologist, my acne is now
under control. I’ve teamed up with AcneHeroes.com to encourage teens to seek the right
treatment as I did during my breakouts.”
AcneHeroes.com offers a multitude of resources where teens and parents can find
information on common acne myths, skincare tips and more. The Web site also features
podcasts, streaming video with Cody Linley and a questions and answers section with Dr.
Jessica Wu.
“AcneHeroes.com is a great place for teens to learn about their skin,” says Dr. Jessica Wu,
Clinical Instructor in Dermatology at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center. “I treat a
lot of teens who are dealing with the challenges of acne and looking for guidance. In
addition to the Web site as a resource, parents should take an active role in helping them
find a solution to their acne by visiting a dermatologist.”
Dr. Wu says the Web site offers a special section designed with tips for parents on how to
help their teens deal with acne and remind them they are not alone. “Parents need to
understand that if left untreated, acne can worsen and have an impact on a teenager’s
appearance. There are variety of over-the-counter and prescription products available,

and in my practice, I have found BenzaClin® to be a safe and effective prescription acne
treatment option for many of my teenage patients.”
Also lending a hand on AcneHeroes.com are Jane Fahey, mother of Chelsea Fahey,
former Miss Teen America and Merissa White, the 2007 Clear Skin Star contest winner
and acne patient. As an added bonus, those that visit the Web site will have an
opportunity to receive one of 50 signed photos from Cody.
