Fraxel Laser Treatment








Fraxel Laser is used for scarring conditions (acne scarring, stretch marks, surgical scars, etc),
pigmentation, ageing and solar keratosis
Treatment of scarring requires a course of 3 – 6 laser treatments
Treatment of other conditions may also require more than one treatment with at least 6
weeks in between
Local anaesthetic cream is used on the skin for 60 minutes pre-treatment
After effects:
o Sunburn-like sensations with redness and swelling (occasionally severe)
o Bronzing/browning developing on the second and third days
o Then a fine exfoliation or peel
o Pin-point scabs and crusts can commonly occur
o Sunscreen is important
o Makeup is OK (mineral is best)
o Acne can occur in the week after treatment, esp if prone
Risks & Side Effects
o Cold sore (Herpes) outbreaks – if prone; cold sore tablets may be recommended
o Uneven responses may require more treatment
o Temporary increased pigmentation – esp. in Asian or darker skin types
o Scars
o Permanent loss or increase in pigment
Not recommended for those pregnant or breast-feeding
Must not be on Roaccutane (at least 3 months prior)
