The Predictive Planetary Periods of Vedic
Astrology
The dashas or planetary periods of Hindu
Astrology represent the development life cycles
and future trends of one's life. This is a unique
predictive system based on the position of your
natal Moon's nakshatra placement. This analysis
can be particularly helpful for gaining a more
comprehensive overview of the timing of karmic
patterns coming to fruition. Marriage, career
success and other important life events can be
revealed with detailed accuracy.

Penumbral Lunar Eclipse
August 18, 2016
by Brenda Black, C.A.P.
There will be a Lunar Eclipse at 25 degrees Aquarius on August 18,
2016. It can be experienced in Los Angeles at 2:26 AM and in New
York at 5:26 AM. This Lunar Eclipse is a mild one and will not
produce any shadow over the Moon. So it will act more like a
normal Full Moon. It is a Penumbral Eclipse and travels over both
eastern and western North America. It also touches upon the
eastern tip of Russia, the Bering Sea, and the Aleutian Islands. Those born on the 16th, 17th and 18th of any month, especially Leos
and Aquarians, will be affected by this eclipse. The Sabian
Symbols for this eclipse will put us in touch with both physical and
metaphysical realities as written by Stephanie Austin in the
August/September 2016 edition of The Mountain Astrologer. The
Symbol for the Sun is “After the heavy storm, a rainbow.” The
Symbol for the Moon is “A garage man testing a carʼs battery with a
hydrometer”

The New Moon at 10 degrees of Leo on August 2, 2016 brings
beginnings and the Full Moon in Aquarius compliments things that
were started at the beginning of August. Following are comments
about this Lunar Eclipse by Jamie Partridge on his website at
www.astrologyking.com/lunar-eclipse-august-2016/ . This Lunar
Eclipse puts the finishing touch on the effects that the Solar Eclipse,
at 18 Pisces on March 8-9, 2016, had on us for the last six months. It prepares us for the new six-month period brought in by the Solar
Eclipse at 9 degrees of Virgo on September 1, 2016. In the chart of this Lunar Eclipse the Moon sextiles Uranus and the
Sun trines Uranus. This formation may reconcile relationship
imbalances and polarities in life. It may “influence us to try
something new and leave our comfort zones” says Jamie
Partridge. It is possible that an old relationship can be renewed
through contact on the Internet. Another positive aspect is that
Mercury aligns with Jupiter putting us in a happier frame of mind. Under this influence disputes can be settled and buying and selling
should turn a profit.

ASA ELECTIONS 2016
BY BILL NASTASIAK
Hello Fellow Members:
If you plan to attend the August program, please allow a
few minutes to check in while the staff fulfills our election

eligible voters, youʼll be given a ballot, receipt of which will
then be indicated on the list.
If youʼve requested an Absentee ballot, you will already
have mailed that to me. I will have cut your ballot to size
and folded it in half, and will place it in the voting box, after
which your name will be checked off the list.
And lest we forget, Write-In candidates can appear at any
time. Just make sure the person meets the Big 3

DEBBIE NOAH
LAC, CCH, RShom(NA)
Candidate for ASA President
My astrological journey started about 40 years ago when I took
lessons in Norton, Ma from a wonderful teacher (Edith) who also
taught us Theosophy. Yes, we did all the calculations by hand back
then! Astrology, to me is our blueprint in life and has been
instrumental in assisting me in understanding life. Itʼs not a finite
field or subject and thatʼs what I love about it with my Sagittarius
moon!
My Bachelorʼs degree in is Holistic Health, and my Masterʼs is in
Licensed Professional Counseling. I am also a graduate of the
American Medical College of Homeopathy and the British Institute
of Homeopathy. I have been a member of ASA since the middle

80ʼs when I moved to Phoenix just before my first Saturn Return
when Saturn was crossing my north node, and then IC with my
daughter, sister, and a few suitcases! Iʼve studied astrology in its
various forms and teachings and I specialize in using astrology to
assist someone in finding their core issue and healing from there. I
am currently working on developing astrology classes for beginners
as well as working with astrological homeopathic remedies made
from the energies of the planets and exploring medical astrology in
depth.
I have been the Program Director for ASA over the past two years
and have enjoyed the journey! I would love to and it would be an
honor to serve and to be the President of ASA for the next two
years. Iʼd like to focus on “making new friends and keeping the old”
and also focus on the education and professional development of
our members who wish to do so. Letʼs keep ASA growing and of
course FUN for all!

SHRUTI SHYANANI
CANDIDATE FOR VICE PRESIDENT
I grew up in N.W. suburbs of Chicago, and moved to Phoenix three
years ago. I love the winters, beautiful mountains, desert and
people of Arizona, but I am still getting used to the Arizona
summers.
I have always been interested in Astrology since I was a child, but
my study started when I took Introduction to Astrology class at the
local community center while I was in high school. Since then my
study has continued as a hobby and I have attended multiple
conferences as well as became a member of local Friends of
Astrology and NCGR organization.
Being an analytical engineer, I am interested in electional and
horary astrology, which allows me to gauge the results of my
astrology analysis. My interest in astrology has continued to grow
as more I learn, more I find out there is still an ocean of knowledge
to uncover. The breath of astrology keeps my Mercury in Gemini
satisfied .
I strongly support continued growth of knowledge in astrology and
as one of my small contribution to it, I am running for the position of
Vice President. For the past two years, I have served as the
President of ASA and as Technical Director.
I believe it is important to create an enjoyable environment for

learning astrology while being fiscally responsible. During the past
year I led in eliminating the cost of sending out the newsletter and
reduced the website hosting costs by 80% the previous year.
I am versatile, team player, friendly and have been recognized for
my leadership skills by upper level management at work. I have and
I am currently serving on the board of professional organization.
I would welcome and appreciate the opportunity to continue to
serve this wonderful organization by collaboratively working with
rest of the leadership board as the Vice President of Arizona
Society of Astrology
ANITA PETRIELLO
CANDIDATE FOR EXECUTIVE SECRETARY
My name is Anita Petriello, and I am running for ASA Executive
Secretary in the upcoming election. Having been an ASA member
since September 2011, I have served on the ASA Board since
November 2012. It was then that I was appointed Member-at-Large.
In January 2014, I was voted in as Executive Secretary, replacing
then secretary Barbara Berg. Along with being Executive Secretary,
I was a former editor of the ASA monthly newsletter.
My goal today is to continue to work closely with the ASA Board if
re-elected to this position. Having the utmost respect for the ASA as
an educational vehicle to progress the field of astrology, I plan to
continue its work toward advancement for all willing to take this
rewarding path. We must never lose sight of this commitment.
My astrological path began as a teenager when Pluto transited over
my Neptune, and my commitment to astrology continues to grow
stronger today. The ASA has helped me advance my understanding
of astrology since I attend my first meeting in 2011, and this
September will be my fifth year as a member. Volunteering my time
in education has encompassed a major portion of my life. I hold a
BA in English and am certified to teach secondary education
language arts. I am a substitute teacher for the Kyrene School
District, widowed, and live with my two dogs in Ahwatukee.

The Arizona Society of Astrologers (ASA) is one of the oldest
astrology organizations. A non-profit organization, the ASA was founded on
September 7, 1973, during a time when American society
began its earnest quest for self-discovery. The society owes
its inception to John Gilliam, an avid local astrologer. The
ASA was incorporated on September 20, 1974, at 4:30
p.m., in Scottsdale, AZ.

AUGUST IN THE
STARS
One of my favorite
lines from the
movie, The Life of
Pi, comes at the end
of the movie after Pi
Patel has related

two versions to a
writer of how he
survived after a boat
his family was
traveling to America
on capsized. His
family perished and
he managed to
survive.
Pi asks the
writer..."Which story
do you prefer? Humans are
storytellers. We like
to make meaning of
the events in our
lives or even to
describe what is
happening in the
heavens at any
given time. We can
decide to turn
challenging events
into a great
adventure or an
awful tragedy.
I can tell you which
story I prefer. It is
the one that
provides us with
hope. Not hope that
says if we do
nothing everything
will be fine. But
instead, the hope
that says, I can do
something to make
things better. It may
only be a small
thing, but if I
consistently practice
that one act of
improvement; it will
ripple out and it just

world.
What story do you
prefer? Because the
one you tell yourself
is probably the one
that will define your
experience. Choose
wisely.
August 2, Mars
enters the sign of
Sagittarius bringing
a surge of
adventurous energy.
Star Wisdom: Pay
attention to what
energizes you.
Move your body and
give Mars an outlet

Moon in Leo--Time
to tap into our
creativity.
Star Wisdom: Just
when you think you
have exhausted all
options, try again.
August 5-Venus
enters the sign of
Virgo-This can be a
time of using our
resources more
efficiently.
Star Wisdom:
Simplify your life.
Before spending
more money, ask
yourself, do I really
need this?

12---Jupiter
opposite Chiron-Jupiter likes to
expand and
sometimes
proselytize. In Virgo,
Jupiter can
encourage a certain
dogmatic adherence
to the law, while
Chiron encourages
us to heal and listen
more to the spirit,
which can lead to
more compassion.
Star Wisdom: It is
time to relinquish
our more primal
instincts and reach
for the higher side of
our humanity.
August 13---Saturn
turns direct.
Patience pays off.
Star Wisdom---If
we put forth the
effort needed to
take full advantage
of opportunities we
are given; this will
result in ultimate
success.
August 18--Full
Moon--Sun in Leo,
Moon in Aquarius.
There will also be a

While this is not as
powerful as a total
eclipse, hidden and
unconscious
matters can surface.

Star Wisdom: A
good time to

Be consistent, keep
our word, and be
