Day of Event: $15 NCGR Members / $18 Non-Members Astrology can be used as a tool for understanding how we inhibit or cultivate intimacy. Venus and Mars describe many of our romantic traits, but our deepest issues come from the outer planets in our birth charts! They articulate how we experience our individuality and what we are authentically able to give and receive in our intimate relationships. Who and what we are when we stand alone is the foundation for what we are capable of achieving with others. Lanyadoo's talk will explore how to read what we need for our personal development so that we can be strong enough to share our true selves with others. Interdependence in intimate relationships requires that we stay ourselves and not merge with those we love. She is a triple Capricorn with a passion for all things practical and has been channeling this into her professional practice of Astrology since 1995. YOUR REAL RULING PLANET: UNRAVELING THE MYSTERY OF SUN SIGN DISPOSITORS – Christopher Renstrom, Saturday, July 30th: Noon - 4:00 PM, Building C, Room C210 Advance Registration: $25 NCGR Members / $30 Non-Members. Day of Event: $30 NCGR Members / $35 Non-Members Michael Lutin Sun sign astrology is only about a hundred years old. Earlier, it was the Ruling Planet, and not the zodiac sign, that was the main focus of attention. Each of us is born under a Ruling Planet, which is like a guardian angel, den mother, and corporate sponsor - all wrapped up into one. On the day that you were born, you became a "child" of this planet-- inheriting its characteristics and interests, its talents, foibles, and temperament. By focusing exclusively on the Ruling Planet, Christopher demonstrates how you can cut through the "too much information" syndrome of astrology and determine when you are "in season" and when you are "out of season" and what to expect when your Ruling Planet is traveling through a rough patch of sky. The workshop will be focusing on the lore of each Ruling Planet ranging from the Sun through Pluto. Christopher will also demonstrate how all of this works by using examples ranging from history as well as today’s headlines. The Ruling Planet is your guiding star for timing on the celestial clock. Christopher Renstrom writes the daily horoscopes for the San Francisco Chronicle as well as its online counterpart: SFGate.com. His book, Christopher Ruling Planets, was first published by HarperCollins in 2002 and has sold over 50,000 copies to date. It is the basis for Rulingplanets.com Renstrom which is Renstrom’s subscription-based, on-line, interactive Astrology magazine. Renstrom has been a practicing astrologer since 1985. He created the horoscope column for ALLURE magazine (Conde Nast publications). His “Renstrom’s Horoscopes” were carried on Verizon, Sprint, and All Tel, and he conceived and developed Ask the Astrologer for LifetimeTV.com. Ask the Astrologer is an ongoing feature on Rulingplanets.com as well as in CATALYST magazine. Renstrom appears regularly on radio and lectures around the country. His last lecture for NCGR was on Astrology and Christianity in Pre-Revolutionary America. A 30year resident of New York City, Christopher now lives in Salt Lake City, Utah. ACHIEVING ASTROLOGICAL MASTERY – Lee Lehman, Ph.D. Saturday and Sunday Sept 17th - 18th 10:30 AM - 5:30 PM, Bldg C, Room Sat: C-230 Sun: C-210, with Lunch Breaks Advance Registration: $100 NCGR Members / $120 Non-Members. Day of Event: $120 NCGR Members / $140 Non-Members Sad but true: many people study astrology for decades and never find that they are comfortable reading a chart on their own. It is as if they are perpetual beginners, searching for the technique that will allow everything to suddenly click into place. Lee thinks that what is often really happening is that the way most of us learn astrology isn't conducive to giving people what they need to get beyond a beginner stance. Over these two days, Lee presents a teaching system to take people past the bottlenecks that have prevented them from utilizing the astrological richness that they already know. This is not a workshop designed for only people who use classical astrology. This is designed to teach anyone to use her or his techniques more efficiently and comfortably. Lee Lehman DAY 1: We begin with an exercise to help everybody see where they are at. What is beginner mind? When is it a help, and when a hindrance? Distinguishing left from right. What do you do when you get conflicting indicators? What are your goals in the reading? What is the icing, and what is the cake? Can you predict everything about a person's life from astrology, and, if not, where are the limits and contours? What do you need to know besides astrology to help a client? DAY 2: Creating the "short list." Do different types of readings call for different techniques? Distinguishing "hot" from "cold" periods. Multi-year analysis. Different viewpoints on the spiritual dimension. The interface of mundane with personal. Lee Lehman served the astrological community as Research Director for NCGR from 1987-1999, as UAC Board Treasurer from 1990 -1999, and as UAC Program Chair for UACs 1995 and 1998. She is a Life Member of the National Council for Geocosmic Research (NCGR), the International Society for Astrological Reasearch (ISAR), and the American Federation of Astrologers (AFA). Lee is a partner in sheville.org, an online community magazine that features a wealth of diverse resources in Western North Carolina, especially relating to the feminist ideals of balance, collaboration, compassion and environmental stewardship that challenge greed, exploitation and domination. As part of her commitment to affordable services to small businesses through sheville.org, and independently, Lee also runs a web and computer consultation business. Lee was the recipient of the 1995 Marc Edmund Jones Award, and the recipient of the 2008 Regulus Award for Education. Along with Esoteric Technologies, Lee has created two software report writer programs written specifically for the classical astrologer: Solar Writer/Medicus, for medical questions and decumbitures; and Solar Writer/Classical, for natal delineation in the matter-of-fact style of the Renaissance astrologer. She has developed the innovative add-on to Cosmic Pattern's Sirius: Who Wins, which captures the rules of Bonatti for warfare for use in researching the outcome of sporting events. Her Learning with Lee CD series on learning classical astrology methods provides timeless techniques in the latest technical format. THE ASTROLOGY OF ROCK AND ROLL – Richard Tarnas Saturday Oct TBA 10:30 AM - 5:30 PM, Bldg C, Room C-TBA, with Lunch Break. Exact Date & Room To Be Announced. Advance Registration: $50 NCGR Members / $60 Non-Members. Day of Event: $60 NCGR Members / $70 Non-Members Richard Tarnas The arts represent one of the most fruitful areas for astrological study, as they embody and express the archetypes with special power. Astrology can give us a deeper understanding of great works of art at the same moment that those works of art can give us a deeper understanding of astrology. The history of rock and roll represents one of the great creative explosions of the twentieth century, and a cornucopia of astrological paradigm cases. This day-long presentation will survey that history and explore many classics, from Elvis and Chuck Berry through the Beatles and the Stones, Clapton and Hendrix, Van Morrison and Joni Mitchell, and on to Patti Smith, Bruce Springsteen, Chrissie Hynde, U2, the Police, and Alanis Morissette. Music and video clips will be used to illustrate the presentation. This daylong workshop will be a condensed version of the rock and roll portion of Richard Tarnas recent ten-week CIIS Graduate Seminar on “Archetypes, Art, and Culture.” Richard Tarnas is a professor of philosophy and cultural history at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco, where he founded the graduate program in Philosophy, Cosmology, and Consciousness. He also frequently lectures on archetypal studies and depth psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute in Santa Barbara. He is the author of Cosmos and Psyche: Intimations of a New World View, which received the Book of the Year Prize from the Scientific and Medical Network in the UK. He is also the author of Prometheus the Awakener, a monograph, and The Passion of the Western Mind, a history of the Western world view from the ancient Greek to the postmodern which became both a best seller and a required text in many universities. HELLENISTIC TIME-LORD TECHNIQUES: STUDYING THE CONFLUENCE OF FATE – Chris Brennan Saturday November 19th 10:30 AM - 5:30 PM, Bldg C, Room C-210, with Lunch Break. Advance Registration: $50 NCGR Members / $60 Non-Members. Day of Event: $60 NCGR Members / $70 Non-Members Chris Brennan The purpose of this workshop is to provide a detailed overview of a group of timing procedures from the Hellenistic tradition of astrology known as “time-lord techniques.” In the ancient traditions of astrology not all areas of one’s natal chart were thought to be active during the entire duration of the life. Instead, certain planets and parts of the chart were thought to become awakened at specific times, and it was during these times that the full potential of a placement would become manifested in the life of the native. The time-lord techniques were designed in order to determine exactly when each planet and part of the chart would become activated at certain points during the native’s life. Although these techniques were lost during the course of the transmission of astrology over the past 2,000 years, their recent recovery has profound implications for the practice of astrology in the modern period. In this workshop we will focus on two specific time-lord techniques from the Hellenistic tradition called Annual Profections and Zodiacal Releasing. Workshop attendees will learn how to use Profections in concert with transits in order to determine which transits will be a “hit” and in what context, and they will also learn how to use Zodiacal Releasing in order to time “peak periods” in a person’s life relative to specific topics such as one’s career or love life. Chris Brennan is a practicing astrologer and researcher from Denver, Colorado. He was educated at Kepler College, where he focused on cross-cultural comparisons between the astrological traditions. He spent two years studying at Project Hindsight, a translation project for ancient astrological texts. He specializes in Hellenistic astrology, and teaches an online course on the subject. He is the current President of the Association for Young Astrologers, as well as the former Research Director of the National Council for Geocosmic Research. His forthcoming book is titled: Hellenistic Astrology: The Study of Fate and Fortune. Website: www.chrisbrennanastrologer.com. Email: [email protected].
