This workshop will explore the ways in which Astrology can both deny and serve that spiritual impulse within the individual. The workshop will present a method of exploring the natal chart in which the inner planets, symbolic of the personal self, are held within the context of the outer planets, symbolic of the transpersonal or greater self. This, in turn, will be explored within the context of a larger idea; that the mystery of true nature ultimately transcends the content of the natal chart. Numerous examples from Mark’s work as a Psychosynthesis therapist and astrologer will be utilized in illustration. Pre-Conference Intensives Friday, May 27 9:00 a.m. - Noon. $75/$105 Lynn Bell ~ Wrestling with Squares Squares in the birth chart push us forward. They are often factors for great dynamism, and when squares form between dynamic planets, like Mars and Jupiter, they often bring extraordinary results. But what’s wrong with squares? Part of the issue is that it’s hard to get a handle on the internal tensions that drive these squares – while one aspect of the self is in overdrive, another is often undernourished, falling into unconsciousness. Squares have a way of biting your tail, throwing you off balance. Often the conflicts described by squares manifest in our dealings with others, and may irrupt into tension and disagreement. They can generate relentless activity that ends up exhausting or even harming the person. Of course not all squares are alike. With Saturn, there can be great inhibition, doubt and frustration. In some cases this is so strong that there is little energy left to move forward. Today, we shall explore the many expressions of squares in the birth chart, as well as the ways to rein them in and tame them. Ryhan Butler & Wade Caves ~ Horary Astrology and the 7th House: For Love and Profit The seventh house is one of the most productive houses in horary astrology and serves to illuminate issues ranging from business partnerships to outright war, from romance to relocation. In this workshop we will explore the various themes related to the seventh house and the ways in which these themes are connected through core principles, focusing specifically on charts relating to business and interpersonal relationships. While no prior knowledge of horary is necessary to appreciate and gain insight from this workshop, a foundational knowledge of astrology will be required. Richard Tarnas - Psychedelic Therapy, Sacred Medicine Journeys, and Astrology With the growing renaissance of government-approved research into the power of psychedelic therapy for treating conditions ranging from PTSD and addiction to depression and end-of-life anxiety, and with the increasing interest in indigenous sacred medicine rituals such as ayajuasca and peyote circles, the unique capacity of astrology for illuminating the archetypal character and timing of non-ordinary states of consciousness has become especially relevant. The world’s leading psychiatrist in psychedelic therapy, Stanislav Grof, has called astrology the “Rosetta’s stone” of the human psyche. Richard Tarnas will share his and Grof ’s forty years of research in this field, which began at Esalen Institute in the 1970s. Post-Conference Intensives Monday, May 30, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. $100/$130 Frank Clifford ~ Articulating the Horoscope (Natal and Forecasting work) This workshop is designed for those looking to develop more confidence articulating astrological placements. To do so, we’ll combine the processes of Mercury (spotting patterns, interpreting and articulating symbols) with Jupiter (exploring meaning with the client and discovering the broader narrative). Clients have many different ways of viewing the world, so we as ‘astrological translators’ must learn to speak their language and recognize how they will interpret what we say. Today, we’ll work with case studies and our own examples to practice articulating the horoscope with compassion and wisdom so that our work may be more constructive and fruitful. Alan Oken - Perils, Proclivities, and Preponderances at a Glance How to judge the major vital factors in any given natal chart in 10 minutes or less! Each horoscope, each life is a complex labyrinth but the right road map will reveal even its most sinuous and guarded passages. There are the astro-logical lenses that the astrologer can wear allowing us to see quickly and accurately through even the most complex of celestial influences. Alan has been polishing these lenses for the past 50 years and will be discussing how to use them during this workshop. He will read natal charts chosen at random from among the participants as examples of such lenses and road maps. Patricia Walsh ~ Astro-Magination: Using Imagery and Imagination in Astrological Counseling We live in an era of exponential change. Most astrologers have discussed the recent Pluto/Uranus squares (2012-2015) from a variety of viewpoints, but with one common thread: we are experiencing the need for deep transformational…radical change. What about the way we practice astrology? In its noblest sense, Astrology’s potential is to restore cosmic connection where there has been estrangement. Not only to bring collective cohesion, one human psyche at a time, but to also rekindle faith in a benevolent, harmonious and synchronistic universe….but we cannot lead others where we have not been ourselves. In this workshop you will learn fresh ‘experiential’ techniques to apply to your own learning and the way you practice astrology. This workshop is designed to bring you into direct relationship with the living soul of the archetypes we call planets and signs. We will explore the principles of synchronicity and imagination and its uses in both astrological learning and counseling.
