OBJECTIVE This policy establishes the general framework for action on environmental issues for Banco Pichincha and integrates any policy or initiative of environmental nature of the organization. 2. SCOPE This Policy applies to all operations of Banco Pichincha, as well as all processes, products and services. 3. RESPONSIBLES FOR COMPLIANCE The implementation of this policy represents the commitment of senior management on environment. It is the responsibility of all employees, suppliers and customers of Banco Pichincha to comply with the Environmental Policy. 4. POLICIES Banco Pichincha is an Ecuadorian financial institution providing financial intermediation services to individuals and businesses. Banco Pichincha has adopted a responsible attitude towards the environment and society, planning to achieve its business goals, so that a not only financial profitability criterion is considered. This approach involves proper management of own environmental aspects of the Bank's operations, such as the use of resources or energy consumption and associated emissions that contribute to Climate Change. But it also requires consideration of the environmental opportunities and risks associated to the business of its customers and suppliers, over which Banco Pichincha can favorably affect. Statement of Principles Nature is affected by the impacts of human activities, both local and global, which endangers the conservation of the benefits to society. • The financial system should contribute to the protection of the environment through proper management of its activities and the influence they can have on its stakeholders, especially customers, suppliers, partners and local and foreign counterparts. • Prevention is the main focus of environmental protection as it seeks to avoid or minimize environmental damage before they occur. Environmental Policy SG-RS-31 New technologies and knowledge is a basic element in achieving environmental improvement, opening new alternatives for development with less environmental impact. Compliance with environmental requirements based on regulations determines the basis of environmental protection from which the continuous improvement process is established. Declaration of Commitment • • • • • • • • Develop the Bank’s activities in accordance with the environmental requirements established in the regulations and other programs to which it is a member. Adopt the principle of environmental protection in order to avoid or minimize foreseeable environmental impacts, and then apply corrective measures or compensation of not avoided impacts. Integrating environmental variable into the design and development of financial products and services. Identify and implement efficiency measures in the use of resources and energy, so that savings are achieved and the Bank's contribution to Climate Change is reduced. Integrate environmental protection criteria in the selection process of suppliers, partners and risk assessment associated with customers to reduce indirect environmental impact of Bank, encourage them the implementation of measures to improve and expand an environmental culture. Establish and periodically review compliance with environmental objectives, for the progressive and continuous improvement of environmental performance. Implement and maintain an updated Environmental Management System based on internationally recognized standards. Contribute to environmental awareness of its employees and other stakeholders by publishing this policy and maintaining permanent communication channels. 5. GLOSSARY Environmental aspect: element of the activities, products or services of an institution that can interact with the environment, such as energy consumption that contributes to climate change or resource consumption that contributes to overexploitation of these and the generation of waste is a result. Environmental Impact: Any change in the environment, whether adverse or beneficial, which occurs as a result of total or partial environmental aspects of Banco Pichincha. Environmental Management System: Set of interrelated elements that are part of the management system of an institution whose objective is to develop and implement its environmental policy and manage its environmental aspects. Counterparts: In the financial sector, it refers to brokers, investment banks, jointly responsible banks and other dealers, who act as the contracting party to complete financial transactions. 6.
