TYPHOID FEVER WITH PREVENTION OF TYPHOID FEVER
IN MUARA TEWEH GENERAL DISTRICT HOSPITAL 2013

ABSTRACT
Background : Typhoid fever or usually called typhoid or types by a layman, is an
acute infectious disease of the gastrointestinal tract caused by the bacterium
Salmonella Typhi. Typhoid fever attack people in every country. As the other
infectious diseases, many cases of typhoid is founded in developing countries that
have poor personal hygiene and environmental sanitation. Typhoid Fever in Muara
Teweh have second ranks in the list of top ten most disease in inpatient hospitals
Muara Teweh with 444 cases (21.64).
Objective of research : Knowing correlation between patient’s knowledge about
typhoid fever with prevention of typhoid fever in Muara Teweh General District
Hospital 2013.
Methods : The type of this research is non-experimental research with quantitative
descriptive approach, accidental sampling. The total of sample is 34 respondents.
Measuring instruments in the form of a questionnaire about patients' knowledge about
typhoid fever and the prevention of typhoid fever.
Results : The results got level of patient’s knowledge about typhoid fever with good
category is 17, 6%, enough categories is 32.4%, and less categories is 50%. The
prevention of typhoid fever of good categories is 58, 8% and unfavorable category is
41, 2%.
Conclusion : There is a correlation between patient’s knowledge about typhoid fever
with prevention of typhoid fever in Muara Teweh General District Hospital 2013.

Latar Belakang : Demam Tifoid yang biasa juga disebut typhus atau types oleh
orang awam, merupakan penyakit infeksi akut pada saluran pencernaan yang
disebabkan bakteri Salmonella Typhi. Demam tifoid menyerang penduduk disemua
Negara. Seperti penyakit menular lainnya, tifoid banyak ditemukan dinegara
berkembang yang hygiene pribadi dan sanitasi lingkungannya kurang baik. Di Muara
Teweh Demam Tifoid menempati urutan kedua dalam daftar sepuluh penyakit
terbanyak di ruang rawat inap RSUD Muara Teweh dengan jumlah 444 kasus (21,64)
Tujuan Penelitian : Mengetahui Hubungan Pengetahuan pasien tentang demam
tifoid dengan pencegahan demam tifoid di ruang rawat inap Rumah Sakit Umum
Muara Teweh 2013
Metode Penelitian : jenis penelitian ini adalah non eksperimental dengan pendekatan
deskriptif kuantitatif, pengambilan sampel dengan assidental sampling. Jumlah
sampel sebanyak 34 responden. Alat ukur berupa kuesioner tentang pengetahuan
pasien tentang demam tifoid dengan pencegahan demam tifoid.
Hasil Penelitian : hasil penelitian didapatkan tingkat pengetahuan pasien tentang
demam tifoid dengan kategori baik sebesar17,6%, kategori cukup 32,4% dan kategori
kurang sebesar 50%, sedangkan untuk pencegahan dengan kategori baik sebesar
58,8% dan kategori kurang baik sebesar 41,2%.
Kesimpulan : Terdapat hubungan antara pengetahuan pasien tentang demam tifoid
dengan pencegahan demam tifoid di ruang rawat inap RSUD Muara Teweh.
