7000 MEDICATIONS NITROGLYCERINE (NITROSTAT, NITROQUICK, etc) Description Short-acting peripheral venodilator decreasing cardiac preload and afterload Onset & Duration Onset: 1-3 min. Duration: 20-30 min. Indications • Pain or discomfort due to suspected Acute Coronary Syndrome • Pulmonary edema due to congestive heart failure Contraindications • Suspected right ventricular ST-segment elevation MI (Inferior STEMI pattern plus ST elevation in right sided-precordial leads) • Hypotension SBP < 100 • Recent use of erectile dysfunction (ED) medication (e.g. Viagra, Cialis) Adverse Reactions • Hypotension • Headache • Syncope Dosage and Administration 0.4 mg (1/150 gr) sublingually or spray, every 5 minutes PRN up to a total of 3 doses for persistent CP.
