Fig. 1-1 shows the block diagram of the printer. It is composed of the control circuit block centering
around the CPU and its related circuits, interface circuit block for interface with the host operation
switch
input, operation circuit block for LED indication block, printer mechanism block, power failure block,
paper end block, control block for external units, and power block to supply required power to each

2) Initial Reset Circuit
IC6 (M51943BSL) is an IC to produce reset signals. When Vcc rises to about +4.25V or above with
the power ON, The output of IC6 changes from “L” to “H”, RST of IC1 (CBM-606PC-**) is released
from reset, and normal operation will start. When Vcc lowers from +5V down to about +4.25V with
the power OFF, the output of IC6 changes from “H” to “L”, and IC1 (CBM-606PC-**) is reset.

3. Printer Control Circuits
1) SOL1 to SOL9 are solenoid drive circuits of the printer. The transistor array of IC4 (HA13408) is
driven by each signal, PA0 to PA7 and PB0, of IC1.
This drives nine solenoids of the print head, files the print wire, and forms dot matrix characters through
ribbon on the record paper.
2) MOTOR is the drive circuit to move the carriage loaded with solenoids of the printer.
It is controlled by signals from PB1 of IC1, and run / stop of the motor is controlled by IC8 (74LS04)
and IC5 (STA401A).
3) CC, SOL is the solenoid drive circuit to changeover the ribbon for print in red.
It is controlled by signals from PB2 of IC1, and controls solenoids by IC8 (74LS04) and
IC5 (STA401A).
4) LF, SOL is the solenoid drive circuit for paper feed. It is controlled by signals from PB3 of IC1,
and controls solenoids by IC8 (74LS04) and IC5 (ST401A) to make clutch operation for paper feed.
5) DP inputs signals composed by a disc directly connected to the motor shaft with several slits and
a photo-interruptor, fairs waveforms with R8, C1, and Tr1, and inputs signals to PC3 of IC1 as
dot pulse detection signals (DP) through IC7 (74LS04) and IC8 (74LS04).
6) HP inputs signals composed by a disc directly connected to the motor shaft with several slits and
a photo-interruptor, fairs waveforms with R9, C2, and Tr2, and inputs signals to PC6 of IC1 as
home position signals (HP) through IC7 (74LS04). It is generated every 20 dot pulse detection
signals.
7) RP fairs waveforms of signals of the mechanical leaf switch that makes every one stroke of the print
head with R9, C2, and Tr2, and inputs signals to PC7 of IC1 through IC7 (74LS04).
It shows the datum position of home position signals (HP).

and S2 by R17, C5, and IC7 (74LS04).
2) LED
LED1 (POWER) is lit when the power is on. LED2 (SEL / ALARM) is a monitor for online and alarm.
LED1 is connected to R14, and LED2 is connected to R16, Tr3, and R15, and both LEDs are controlled
by PB4 of IC1.

5. Drawer and Winder Control Circuit
This circuit is composed of two circuits. AW (Winder) and DR1 are common for one circuit and each
function is selectable. Another is the control for DR2 only.
1) AW / DR1 Control Circuit
This is composed of R24, Tr4, tr5, and D1, and connected to PB6 of IC1 through IC8 to control AW and
DR1.
2) DR2 Control Circuit (Option)
This is controlled by PF3 of IC1 through R102, Tr101, R103, and the drive of IC5 (STA401A).
JP2 can be connected to output DR1 signals to CN6.

6. Dip Switch Circuit
1) Dip Switch Circuit
DS1 (Dip switch) is composed of eight switches, and reads with AN0 to AN7 of IC1.
ONLINE / OFFLINE, character, CR control, AW / DR1 and so on can be set by setting of
the Dip Switch.
2) PE (Paper end) Circuit
ON / OFF signals from the mechanical switch is input to PB5 of IC1 through R13, C4,
and IC7 (74LS04). Presence / absence of paper is detected by ON / OFF of the switch.

7. Cutter Control Circuit (Option)
This is composed of an input circuit to control cutter position and a drive circuit to operate the cutter.
1) Input Circuit
The input circuit to control cutter position is input to PF2 of IC1 through R101, C101, and IC8 (74LS04)
to control the cutter.
2) Drive Circuit
The drive circuit to operate the cutter outputs cutter control signals from PF0 and PF1 of IC1 through
TA1 (TA8428K). It operates with the following signals.

8. Serial Interface Circuit (3535R-type only)
1) Transmitting and Receiving Circuits (RS-232C)
Data receiving (RD), BUSY (DTR), and FAULT signals are transmitted and received by a RS-232C
transmitter of IC9 (MAX232C). RD signals are controlled by PC1 of IC1, FAULT signals by PC0 of IC!,
and DTR signals by PC2 of IC1 respectively.
2) Reading of Dip Switch
DS2 (Dip switch) is composed of eight switches, and reads with PD0 to PD7. Setting the dip switch
enables baud rate (110 to 9600 bps), word length, parity check, and parity condition setting.
3) Positive and negative voltage for RS232C
A power supply of +12V is required to maintain the voltage level of RS-232C.
Since this printer produces +12V voltage with a power supply circuit built in the IC, a separate +12V
power supply is not required.
