Sri Lanka Watch Blessings of Jaya Pirith Desuma on citizens and President. Jaya Pirith Deshanaya ( Religious chant of Buddhist Scriptures) conducted by thousands of Buddhist monks assembled at the Sugathadasa Indoor stadium in Colombo today are to bless for the betterment and success on future endeavors of the President Mahinda Rajapaksha and all citizens of Sri Lanka. The pirith desuma was felicitate under the presence of President Rajapaksha himself and flanked by other cabinet members. Buddhist maha nayaka theros assembled from all parts of the country to bless president Rajapaksha, chanted the sacred scripture uttered by Lord Buddha. A special prominence was given to Jaya Piritha (Scripture for Victory). Before the commencement of the sacred proceedings, Maha nayaka theros addressed the gathered theros and the island wide listeners and viewers to bless the president. Special words of gratitude was bestowed upon the president with his remarkable achievement in defeating the terrorism that prevailed in the country for three decades and also an acknowledgement of his courage to withstand the words of degradation flown from the opposition in the last two months of election campaigning. President Rajapaksha was seen immersed in Buddhist rituals commenced in the event felicitated by thousands of Buddhist monks. The live coverage of the event was commemorated under the state media channels; prominent among them the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC), Rupavahini Corporation, and Independent Television Network (ITN). Interviewing a few people about the organization of the Jaya Pirith Deshanawa, some approved the event stating it as a conducted process to boost the morality of the people while others stated this as a another ploy to get around the conclusion of Election Campaigning.
