It doesn’t take long for genealogy research to pile up: stacks of paper on your desk
and floor, sticky notes surrounding your computer screen, and binders packed
with pages. Migrating to a digital note-taking system can save you time, space
and headaches. But which one should you use? The top two contenders are Evernote and OneNote, and in the chart below they go head to head. Both programs
are noteworthy (literally)—your choice comes down to personal computing
needs and work style.

What It Is
A suite of downloadable software (desktop
client), mobile apps, and Web-based services
focused on note taking, web clipping and
archiving.

suite along with programs such as Word
and Excel. The entire package retails for
$150, but you can buy OneNote as standalone software for $79.95. Sign up for a free
SkyDrive account for cloud storage (7GB
free; additional storage available for a fee).
