VACAVILLE, CALIFORNIA Global Pharmaceutical Supply Group, a unit of ALZA Business Facts The Global Pharmaceutical Supply Group (GPSG) is a unit of the ALZA Corporation. • The GPSG West facility at Vacaville, CA (known as ALZA Corporation) produces oral time-release (OROS®) tablets and transdermal patch (D-TRANS®) medication delivery products. All of these pharmaceutical products serve the prescription and over the counter markets in the general area of advanced drug delivery systems for pain management, smoking cessation among others. • Products are sold by Johnson & Johnson affiliates and other third party sellers. • ALZA's drug delivery platforms are designed to provide numerous benefits, including: o Improve efficacy and patient compliance o Reduce side effects o Enhance delivery of compounds with poor solubility or high first-pass metabolism o Address delivery challenges posed by proteins, vaccines, oligonucleotides and biopharmaceuticals o Create unique delivery profiles that meet specific drug therapy requirements Community and Social Engagement Civic Activities: • We have participated in the following civic activities: o Relay for Life – Events held in both Vacaville and Fairfield o Tuberculosis Walk – Organize and facilitate the Children’s corner and Sponsorship o Daffodil Days – To support patients with Cancer o Creek Clean up at Ulatis Creek – A partnership with EHS & the City of Vacaville to help clean up parks and creeks o Food Bank – Sorting food for families o Back Pack Drive – To provide local school children with backpacks and school supplies o Farm 2 Kids – Assisted in sorting and packaging food for families o Turkey Walk – A company event to provide Solano Food Bank with Turkeys for families o Festival of Trees – To raise money for Opportunity House o Christmas Wish – To provide local children with gifts at Christmas Received two Awards from the Vacaville Unified School District – State and Regional level for the Kids N Fitness Program in 2007 and the annual Backpack drive Environmental, Health and Safety Performance Environmental Highlights: • We held an annual Creek Cleanup at Ulatis Creek • We instituted a recycling of solid waste program • We encouraged the use of transit • We formed the EHS Solano Consortium with local manufacturing companies. • • • GPSG Vacaville achieved its 2008 EPA Performance Track goals and the following targets were met: o Reduce water usage by 5% o Reduce CO2 emissions by 5% o Reduce nicotine hazardous waste by 10% o Reduce Methylene Chloride use by 20% The site was recommended for continued certification by ERM-CVS to the ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems standard on October 8, 2010 and no weaknesses were identified during the most recent assessment. GPSG Vacaville dedicated a 1-megawatt solar system in December 2007. The 6.5 acre ground mounted tracking system is one of the largest private solar arrays in CA and provide one-third of the facility’s peak power demand. This solar project continues the site efforts for indirect CO2 emission reductions, which has been achieved over the past 3 years primarily through the purchase of green tags and a renewable energy mixture in the electricity supply. In 2009, less green tags were purchased resulting in an increase in indirect CO2 emissions.
