COLD REMEDIES SOLD IN CANADA CONTAINING PPA

The following is a list of cold remedies that contain phenylpropanolamine (PPA) in Canada. Consumers
and health professionals are advised to check active ingredients on the product label to confirm. Health
Canada and the US Food and Drug Administration have issued warnings about the rare risk of hemorrahagic
stroke with PPA, especially in women under age 50. Cold products containing pseudoephedrine (e.g.
Sudafedâ
â) have not been associated with this risk, and are generally considered safer. PPA is not
currently included in appetite suppressants in Canada.
