Pharmacists who complete a hospital residency are highly qualified clinical practitioners trained in providing exemplary bedside patient care. • Training includes development of knowledge and skills in providing direct patient care, drug distribution and intravenous admixtures, drug information and evaluation, hospital pharmacy management, and research. How can the health care team benefit from residents? • Do you have a pharmacy resident on your team? Ask them a question! A resident has protected learning time in their residency with decreased patient loads and highly experienced mentors. Each question offers a great learning opportunity. • Graduates of residency programs are prepared for challenging and innovative pharmacy practice. They bring valuable insights from the varied range of practice settings they are exposed to during the residency and the expert pharmacists that they have been trained by.
