Tri-Stage Group Company MERDIS Enters Business Tie-up with GS HOME
Shopping, South Korea’s Leading Direct-Selling Company
Providing Products to the MNC Group, Indonesia’s Leading Media Conglomerate
PT MERDIS INTERNATIONAL (Headquarters: Jakarta, Indonesia; hereinafter, “MERDIS”), a group company
of Tri-Stage Inc. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Chairman and Representative Director: Akio Maruta; TSE
code: 2178; hereinafter “the Company”), a provider of direct marketing support services, has entered into a
business tie-up with GS Home Shopping (Headquarters: Seoul, South Korea; hereinafter, “GS SHOP”) to
expand the TV shopping business in Indonesia.
The GS Group, which owns GS SHOP, is a South Korean conglomerate spun off from the LG Group in 2005.
The GS Group’s activities are multifaceted, with subsidiaries involved in such businesses as distribution,
services, construction and oil refining.
GS SHOP operates GS SHOP TV, a TV shopping channel. Using this channel as a base, the company engages
in television, on-line mobile, catalog and other direct-selling activities. In TV and mobile shopping, in
particular, GS SHOP is South Korea’s market leader*. (* 2014 results)
GS SHOP aims to leverage the operational expertise it has cultivated in South Korea to expand its direct-selling
business into seven overseas countries, including Indonesia. The company commenced operations in Indonesia
in 2012, forming a joint venture with the MNC Group, Indonesia’s leading multimedia company. Through this
joint venture, GS SHOP cooperates in the operation of a TV shopping program provided by an MNC Group TV
station.
Established in 2007, MERDIS has been involved in the business of wholesaling to TV direct-selling channels
since the early days of TV direct selling in Indonesia. MERDIS is a business partner of the SCTV Group,
Indonesia’s leading television station. MERDIS enjoys particularly strong relations with powerful direct-selling
channels and has built a solid business foundation.
Through the current business tie-up, in addition to its traditional business partners MERDIS will be able to
supply products and provide other TV shopping support services to the MNC Group. The MNC Group owns
RCTI, which is effectively Indonesia’s largest television station. Indonesia is expected to deliver some of the
world’s fastest market growth, and the Tri-Stage Group considers the acceleration of its business development
in Indonesia to be a matter of some urgency. We are convinced that creating a cooperative structure that takes
advantage of the strengths of both MERDIS and GS SHOP will boost synergistic effects and help realize this
acceleration.
