Dianella tasmanica “Tas Red”
Description; Ornamental flax lily with beautiful
contrasting foliage colour. This drought and frost tolerant
plant, finally gives designers a native flax that
changes colour throughout the seasons.
Dianella tasmanica is a hardy plant, and
Tas Red will make a great native alternative
to New Zealand flax.
Grows to; Height 40cm spread 40cm.
Foliage;Summer; Generally has a green colour.
Autumn; usually green, with some yellow tones,
and red base. Winter; Green with yellow
tones, and red margins and red base. Often
whole leaves, have red tones. Spring; yellow
tones, with some green and a red base.
The foliage colour change can be influenced by
fertilizer, soil type, and temperature variation.
Blue flowers in spring followed by purple berries.
Position; Tolerates a wide range of soils
and climactic conditions .Suited to full sun
as well as shady positions. Very hardy, exhibiting
excellent drought and frost tolerance.
Maintenance; Fertilize with slow release fertilizer
once a year in spring. Trim older leaves as required.
