Burkwood Daphne
Semi-Evergreen Shrub
4 – 5’ tall x 5’ wide
Low Water
Sun or Part Shade
USDA Zones 6-9
Burkwood Daphne is an attractive, small shrub with pretty, pink, fragrant flowers that bloom in
the spring, and its leaves are green or green edged with white. It produces small red berries in
the summer months. Both the berries and leaves of Daphne shrubs are listed as poisonous in a
number of sources.
The plant requires a cool site with an alkaline and well-drained soil. Provide exposure to full sun
or partial shade.
This easy to grow plant will benefit from pruning to keep it as a dense mound. Plants respond to
heavy pruning but rarely need more than the occasional snip to correct their shape. Cut back to
lateral branches or to just above obvious growth buds. Mulch it in March and add a handful of
all-purpose, organic fertilizer.
Use in borders, around foundations or at woodland's edge.
