Wild peach - Prunus persica
Form: Deciduous branched tree to 5m tall.
Leaves: Oval, 10-12cm long, with finely toothed margins. dropping in autumn.
Flowers: Spring before leaves open. Fragile, 5-petalled, pink, 2-4 cm across.
Fruits: Autumn. Succulent, downy, c3cm long, with one large woody seed. Seed spread by water
and with soil.
Impacts: Slight. Conspicuous exotic, usually of highly disturbed places. The wild form of flowering peach.
Control: Seedlings – pull up or dig out. Saplings and larger plants – cut stump or frill ring and poison.
Ongoing management: Check area every third or fourth year and control new and regenerating plants.
