Description: Annual growing as tall as 5
feet; deep taproot; gray-green stems and leaves are
covered in a cottony wool; bright yellow flowers are
surrounded by sharp spines
Last seen: Disturbed roadsides, pastures,
slopes with well-drained soils
Charge: Crowding out native plants; poisoning
horses (it’s toxic!); reducing wildlife habitat and forage
