Steep windswept slopes and cliffs above beach, with some dwarfed
Betula forest in depressions, mostly lower growing herbs and talus
on exposed slopes; parent rock partly calcareous. Flowers yellow;
robust plants to 1 meter tall with branched stems; in sand on edge of
beach. Phenology: Flowers. Origin: Native.

Middleton Island, Gulf of Alaska, about 115 miles south of Valdez.
59° 25' N, 146° 20' W
Rocky-sandy beach, above normal high tide line at base of small
bluff. Common species include: Senecio pseudo-arnica, Elymus
arenarius mollis, Galium triflorum, Rumex sp., Arenaria peploides,
Barbarea sp., and numerous tall grasses. Very common along beach
and on bluff's edge. Corollas yellow. Some plants to 5 feet tall.
Stems fistulose. Some stems branched near the base. Phenology:
Fruits. Origin: Native.
