The last two lessons have covered the distributive
property and combining like terms. Today you will
use both ideas together. In general you will use the
distributive property first to eliminate the
parentheses and then combine the like terms.
Remember:
Distributive property:
5(2x – t) = 10x – 5t
Like terms:
5x + 8x = 13x 11b – b = 10b
-(x + 4) = -x – 4
3r + 10 – 2r = r + 10
Examples for today’s worksheet:
Example 1: 5(r + 9) – 5 = 5r + 45 – 5 = 5r + 40
Example 2: -8 – 7(y + 2) = -8 –7y – 14 = -7y – 22
Las últimas dos lecciones se han tratado de la
propiedad distributiva y los términos semejantes.
Hoy se practicaran ambas ideas. En general usarás la
propiedad distributiva primero para eliminar los
paréntesis y luego combinarás los términos
semejantes.
Recuerda:

Términos Semejantes:
5x + 8x = 13x 11b – b = 10b 3r + 10 – 2r = r + 10
