5.2. The default road load force shall be calculated using the following
equation:
Fc = f0 + f1 x v + f2 x v2
where:
Fc is the calculated default road load force for a given vehicle velocity , and it
is expressed in Newton (N);
F0 is the constant road load coefficient, in N, defined by the equation:
F0 = 0.140 x TM
f1 is the first order road load coefficient and shall be equal to zero;
F2 is the second order road load coefficient, in N·(h/km)², defined by the
equation:
F2 = 2.8 x 10-6 x TM + 0.017 x width x height

Next Steps
• The formula in the WLTP gtr was adopted in June 2013 on the
understanding that the fixed factors 0.14 , 2.8 x 10-6 and 0.017
need to be validated
• During the ongoing EU WLTP Correlation Programme, a
Volkswagen Crafter will be tested on NEDC and WLTP in both
M1 and N1 configurations
• This will give a comparison between the road loads
experienced from the two test procedures
• The remaining question is which coastdown data is required by
Contracting Parties in order to compare WLTP with real life
