Read pgs. 75-77 about the rise of Christianity in Rome:
1. How did Judaism change once it fell under Roman
rule? How did it contribute to beliefs of a messiah?
2. Explain the origins of Christianity (Include role of
Jesus)
3. How did Christianity differ from Judaism?
4. How was Christianity spread throughout the Roman
Empire? How did the Romans respond to this?
5. What eventually allowed Christianity to become the
official religion of Rome? Explain!
World Religions
• When studying world history, it is important to study
world religions.
• Many countries’ history, government, and culture
originated from their religion.
• We will be studying these religions from a historical
perspective. Do not make judgements! Be open
minded!
• The five most popular religions around the world:
– Christianity
– Judaism
– Buddhism
- Hinduism
- Islam

you are going to complete a
graphic organizer. This will be
your notes for the section.
• We will complete Judaism
together as an example.
• Then, you will work with a
partner to fill in the Christianity
section.
• For homework, you will read
about Islam.

• How is Buddhism different than the other four

• Throughout history, religions are continuously
persecuted by people in power. Why do you think
this is? Why aren’t people more accepting of
different religions? Explain!
Jigsaw Instructions
• Then, you will be broken into groups of three. Once in your group,
number off 1-3.
• Each group member will be responsible for a different religion.
• Next, you will independently complete your own section.
• Once everyone is done, your group will come back together and you
will teach the rest of your group about your religion.
• As you teach, they will fill in the rest of the worksheet.
• Make sure you understand your religion since you will be the only
one teaching it in your group.
