Animal Husbandry Notification of Chemical Hazard Use
This notification and appropriate chemical hazard handling procedures must remain in place while
the hazardous chemical is being administered to animals AND until the final cage change or room
cleaning is completed 72 hours after the final administration.

Personal Protective Equipment required:
For entering room if animals are not contained in filtered caging, for opening cages in a laminar
flow hood, for handling animals outside of a biosafety cabinet or fume hood, for large animal pen
cleaning, and/or for bedding dumping/disposal:
 disposable gown, lab coat, or dedicated scrubs
 disposable shoe covers (or rubber boots if in a wet room)
 gloves
● bonnet
●N95 or PAPR
 safety glasses with side shields or full face shield (if wearing a N-95 and no BSC is used)
 Tyvek sleeves (for small rodent cage handling)
For working with rodent microisolator cages in a biosafety cabinet or fume hood:
 disposable gown, lab coat, or dedicated scrubs
 gloves
 Tyvek sleeves
Euthanasia
Euthanasia practices must follow what is described on the approved protocol.
For CO2 euthanasia of rodents, use a box with no bedding in it. Line the euthanasia box with a
yellow bag to collect any wastes. Follow the CO2 euthanasia instructions posted near the
euthanasia station.
Carcass disposal
All carcasses are considered hazardous during chemical administration and until 72 hours after the
last administration. They must be disposed of in yellow chemical hazard bags.
