Clinical use of PGx Testing in an LTC setting:
Identify patients via pgx testing who do not normally/extensively metabolize psychiatric,
anti depressant, anxiety, anti coagulants, pain or cardio meds extensively, or might be
poor or Intermediate metabolizers and at a higher risk for potential pharmaceutically
related event, such as falls. Subsequently, implement necessary drug regiment
changes as results return within 48 hours and are reviewed.
Why Should a Home Test?
Validate that current medication regiments is the “best” regiment based upon each
residents’ pharmacogenomic testing results. Reduce trial and error medication costs
and reduce number of patients on medications that are / can be genetically proven to
provide no opportunity for therapy for each specific patient. Embrace Personalized
medicine.
Are all PGx tests the same?
NO. PGx Medical and the IDGenetix system is the most easily implemented and has
the largest number of genes tested. Both of these are important as you want to
maximize this one time test with as much info as you can get, and be able to read it and
make sense of how to use it with each resident. Also, PGx Medical will come along side
your staff after testing to help interpret and implement results of the testing.
