Figure Legend:
Performance of method on a simulated simple cell. The system consists of a cascade of a spatial linear filter (acting on
the luminance contrast of the input) followed by a hard-step threshold nonlinearity. The signal z(n) represents Gaussian
additive noise. The simulated receptive field had two subfields, one excitatory (in red) and one inhibitory (in blue). The
algorithm had to estimate this receptive field given the input image sequence and the response of the cell, r(n). The
result of applying the method is shown below the image of the simulated receptive field.
