Title: Relief House Manager
Department: Cronin House
Position reports to: Lead House Manager and/or Program Director
Work Hours: Up to 40 Hours per week
General Summary:
To insure the security and safety of client and the facility during the night hours; to facilitate scheduled
program activities during the day, evening, or weekend hours; to provide clients with staff supervision
and support during the day, evening and night hours.
Essential Functions:
The essential functions of this position include but are not limited to the following:
A. Reporting lines:
 This position reports directly to the Program Director, who is responsible for the overall
operation and activities of the program, through the Lead House Manager
B. Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
 Oversee client needs
 Manage medication processes that support medication access, client self- administration,
monitoring, and control (e.g. obtaining, completion of Record of Medication, providing
access for self-administration, control of inventory, documenting, medication alerts, refills,
disposal, etc.)
 Support daily medication inventories utilizing the Individual Controlled Substance Inventory
Record, documenting any discrepancies, and notifying supervisor
 Answer phones and provide reception coverage to furnish information and/or referrals to
clients and potential clients
 Provide periodic inspection of grounds and facility to assure security and safety
 Facilitate groups as assigned
 Supervise family group participants while on site and Sunday visitation
 Provide clerical and filing duties as assigned
 Complete walk-in and phone Intake Screenings and advise potential clients of requirements,
e.g., TB clearance, 30 days of medications, ID, etc.
 Provide orientation of new clients to treatment program, including resident handbook
 Provide transportation for clients to access services as directed
 Punctuality and attendance to perform duties as scheduled
 Attend all staff meeting and required agency meetings unless excused
 Maintain a working knowledge of and positive regard for 12 step recovery programs
 Responsible for informing Lead House Manager and/or Office Manager of perceived
household, environmental, participant, and personnel needs when appropriate
 Miscellaneous duties as assigned by the Lead House Manager and/or Program Director
 If in recovery, at least three years of continuous sobriety
Minimum Qualifications:
A. Physical Demands:
 All positions with Cronin House require staff to be awake and alert at all times.
 Must be able to stay awake and alert during the night shift. Sleeping on the job will not be
tolerated

Must be able to physically assist clients in their efforts to exit the facility in case of
emergency
Must be able to physically assist clients who are undergoing seizure or other major
withdrawal symptoms to include ambulatory escort to a medical facility if necessary
Must be physically able to perform CPR, which includes the ability to get on the floor, able to
give an effective breath (making the chest rise) and able to give effective chest compressions.
Must be able to drive a passenger van and have a valid California Drivers License
Must be able to use a standard telephone.
Must be able to use a computer.

C. Technical training or knowledge:
 College degree in social services or similar field OR Alcohol and Drug Addiction certificate
or currently enrolled toward completion including registration with either CAADAC or
CAADE/Breining certifying organization leading to State of California Counselor
certification. If not currently enrolled or registered, willing to begin process immediately
upon employment, no longer than six (6) months after hiring. Pre-registration required for
new AOD counselors in California. California law requires registration and certification of
individuals providing alcohol and other drug (AOD) counseling services. New AOD
counselors need to complete a 9-hour orientation course before they first register with a
certifying agency.
 12 month experience working in chemical dependency treatment, previous experience
working in residential setting alcohol or drug treatment program or equivalent experience in
mental health settings is preferred
 Knowledge of alcohol and drug treatment and recovery processes and friendly towards 12
Step Recovery programs

CPR / First Aid certified
Valid California Drivers License with a good driving record and car insurance
Environmental Conditions:
 Work is performed in a large well-lighted facility
 Wheelchair accessible
 Noise level is quiet to moderate
 It is the goal of HSI to have all tobacco-nicotine free grounds. There should be no evidence of
the smoking of tobacco, e-cigarettes or other smoking devices, wearing clothing or carrying
products onto HSI sites which promotes tobacco use. This policy includes smokeless tobacco,
which is a blanket term that refers to a number of tobacco products used by means other than
smoking. These uses include chewing, sniffing, placing the product between the teeth and
gum, and application to the skin.
This position does not promise or imply that the functions listed are the only duties to be performed or
that this position may not change, or be eliminated. Employees are always expected to follow their
supervisor’s instructions and to perform the tasks required by their supervisor.

Confidentiality:
All employees must keep information pertaining to participants’ identity, diagnosis, prognosis or
treatment strictly confidential. The employee’s obligation to safeguard confidential business information
exists both during the period of employment with HSI and after employment with HSI ends.
