Plate Tectonics Landform PowerPoint/Poster/Model
Due December 9th (A Day) or December 12th (B Day)
This needs to be emailed to me or shared with me before class on the
due date!!!
For this assignment, you will investigate a feature or landform somewhere in the world and investigate
the plate tectonics root cause of that object. Each person will sign up for the landform you choose from
a list that I will provide. You cannot do the same landform as somebody else in your class so make sure
to clear it with me before you begin. After you have determined which landform you will learn about,
create either a PowerPoint presentation, a poster, or a model (clay, playdoh, etc.) with the information
found on the table below. Note that if you are doing a model, you will also need to provide some written
material/a small PowerPoint to satisfy the requirements of this assignment.
Landform I have Chosen ______________________________________________________
Completed
Requirements:
Facts: What is it? Where is it found? Interesting statistics (height, depth,
etc.) What is it known for? Age of the landform? How long has it been
forming?
Plate Tectonic Setting: In what plate tectonic setting is this found? What
is the plate tectonics root behind this landform? What is the geological
history of this landform? (see information on back for help)
The future: What does the future hold for this landform? Is it still in the
process of being formed? Is it a dying landform? How long will it be
around?
Diagram: Include a diagram or picture that shows how it was formed or
other information.
Notable events in history: List or show any notable events in the history
of this landform (eruptions, climbing, descents, etc.)

50 Points
You shouldn’t have a lot of text – just bullet points that help you discuss your topic.
o Do not copy and paste stuff, not only will I know that you plagiarized, but it is the
most boring thing to have you get up and read us something you stole.
Use a font and background that makes it easy to read.
o Don’t use yellow writing with an orange background, Be careful with writing on
top of pictures
You should know your topic well enough to be able to talk about
it and not just read your PowerPoint.
o Use your PowerPoint as a guide and not as a book. Talk in your own words and
be able to answer questions.

Plate tectonic settings:
Divergent plate boundaries:


Ocean-ocean divergent – this is a divergent boundary that happens in an ocean (midocean ridge)
Continent-continent divergent – this is a divergent boundary that happens on a continent
Convergent plate boundaries:



Ocean-ocean convergent – this happens in the middle of the ocean.
Ocean-continent convergent – this happens at the boundary between the ocean and
continents
Continent-continent convergent – this happens when two continents collide
Transform plate boundary – this happens when plates move side by side.
