“Play is the highest form of research.” --Albert Einstein
Course Description
In this class, we will create dynamic, multi-page websites using HTML, Cascading Stylesheets, and JavaScript.
Create links, embed images, audio, video, and more.
We will mostly be using text editors like Notepad. WYSIWYG editors are easy and fast, but the goal of this class is
to learn the language that creates those pages.
Expectations
Come to class with ideas, creativity, and determination. What we create is less important than going deep into the
tools we use, so I will look to you to guide some of the content of the class.
Stay focused on the skills we’re learning, and use technology only for the purpose of this technology class. Do your
best. Be responsible. Be safe. Be respectful. I promise to do the same.
Grading
For each assessment, there will be clear guidelines to what represents which grade. In general, I think of the grades
like this:
A: Exceeds the standard. The work demonstrates mastery of and creativity with the skills and uses the skills to
produce a quality finished product.
B: Clearly meets the standard. The work shows ability to apply the skills appropriately, consistently, and accurately to
the task.
C: Meets the standard. The work shows most of the skills, though perhaps with some inconsistency or errors.
Five-Hour Project
The five-hour project for this course will include a survey of and analysis of existing web sites and an accompanying
presentation. The purpose will be to discern what makes web sites effective – not based on content but on layout and
technical details.
