Name: _________________________________ Ms. A Watts Science Period _____ 22 October 2015 - Due 30 October 2015 Plate Tectonic GRASP-S Goal You are going to help the Acme Road Construction Company determine the safest route for the new road that is to be built around the entire world. Your road is to start in Moscow Russia and go around the world to Cape Town South Africa. Role You are a cartographer (map maker) for ARCC. Audience Your target audience are the Civil Engineers that design the bridges for the ARCC. Situation You need to illustrate the different types of boundaries and the surface features found at each type of boundary. The engineers will be using the information you provide to design bridges to span each of the boundaries they will encounter. Product You are going to build a 3D globe or map and a “cut sheet” Standard Your 3D model must include: Your Convergent, divergent, and transform boundaries At least one surface feature found at each boundary You must include all of the plates found in the Northern Hemisphere o Eurasian Plate o Pacific Plate o North American Plate o Cocos Plate o Caribbean Plate o African Plate o Arabian Plate cut sheet must include: You will suggest the best route for the road. You must also indicate what possible difficulties they will encounter at each boundary o volcanic activity o earthquakes o tsunamis o geysers, hot springs o faults o oceanic vents o island arcs o hot spots o rift valleys o mountains A key for the 3D model A brief explanation of the theory of plate tectonics and how continental drift and seafloor spreading contributed to the theory. Name: _________________________________ Ms. A Watts Science Period _____ 22 October 2015 - Due 30 October 2015 Acme Road Construction Company (Cut Sheet) 3D Globe or map key (Create your own icons) 👹 - Volcanic activity ✊- earthquake zone 👾- tsunami zone ✊- geysers ✊- faults 👹 - ocean vents ✊- island arcs 👾- hot spots ✊- rift valleys ✊- mountains 👾- transform boundary ✊- divergent boundary ✊- convergent boundary Plates must be labeled and boundaries shown and the direction of plate movement (arrows) Road Route (choose the safest route) You may note your route from Moscow to point B, C, D….., until you arrive at Cape Town South Africa. You must include a brief explanation (3-5 sentences) explaining why you chose this route. Additional Information A brief explanation of the theory of plate tectonics and how continental drift and seafloor spreading contributed to the theory.
