Las tablas de Daimiel
was declared National
Park in 1973.
 It was a preferential
place several years
ago, but nowadays,
it’s endangered.
LAS TABLAS DE DAIMIEL



Las tablas de Daimiel is
the only one ecosystem
called “river boards,
(tablas fluviales)”, which
has many kinds of flora
and fauna.
Las tablas de Daimiel
were formed because of
the confluence of two
important rivers: Cigüela
and Guadiana.
It’s located above a big
aquifer: “El Acuífero 23”.

In this place, water is
really important for
the wildlife and
agriculture.
 In the eighties,
water’s
overexploitation
caused the drought of
Guadiana river.

For that reason, the
environment has
been transformed:
 First of all, there were
1.928 hectares of
park, but nowadays,
there are only
eighteen.

The sweet water of
Guadiana river help
the growing of reed
marshes while the
brackish water of
Cigüela river help the
growing of sawsedge. The principal
vegetation is the
“palustre”.

 In
the less deep areas, we can find big
groups of cattails, bayuncos, castanets
and reeds. One of the most important
charasteristic of this national park are the
grasslands of charophytes.

 The
most important mammals in the Park
are:
polecat

 The
appearance of pike liek big predator
has caused the reduction of native
species.

 In
spring and summer, we can see some
species of amphibians, for example:
salamander

 The
Park is also very important for the
migratory birds that can be found there:
