Rationale: The Donation after Cardiac Death “TOOLBOX” is an actual
toolbox filled with standard “tools” and supplies that may provide useful in
the operating room during DCD. Because only the ICU personnel take part
in the withholding of care in the OR, and are in an unfamiliar environment, a
DCD toolbox is kept in each ICU and transported with the ICU team to the
OR. The toolbox does not contain all items needed for DCD; for example,
medications cannot be kept here.
