SECTION 16510 LOW VOLTAGE CONTROL - LIGHTING 510.01 GENERAL A. Manufacturer Equipment necessary to provide a complete low voltage, control system shall be General Electric. B. Catalog Numbers General Electric catalog numbers are specified for sole purpose of establishing standards of quality and essential performance characteristics, and not to exclude equal equipment of other manufacturers. Substitutions must receive written approval. C. 510.02 1. 277-Volt lighting shall be controlled by a low-voltage (24V) system, as indicated on the drawings and schedules. 2. The system shall be complete with, but not limited to, transformers, relays, switches, master switches, wall plates and wiring. 3. Remote control components shall be from the same manufacturer and installed in accordance with the recommendations of said manufacturer. 4. Remote control wiring shall be in accordance with Article 725, Class 2 of the National Electric Code, unless otherwise noted on the drawings. SYSTEM COMPONENTS A. 16510-rev0 Description Relay Cabinet 1. The Relay Cabinets shall be General Electric, RB3, suitable for twenty-four (24) relays, unless otherwise noted on the drawings. 2. The Relay Cabinet(s) cover shall be #RB3CF for flush mounting or #RB3CS for surface mounting. Required mountings shall be as indicated on the drawings. 3. The Contractor shall provide a 277V, 60 Hz primary, 75 Volt-Amp momentary, 40 Volt-Amp continuous, 24-Volt secondary Type RT2 transformer in the cabinet. 4. The Contractor shall provide all necessary bus bars, terminal strips and steel separators for high and low voltage sections. 16510 - 1 December 2004 SECTION 16510 LOW VOLTAGE CONTROL - LIGHTING 5. 6. B. C. The Contractor shall provide a silicon, half-wave General Electric, #RA16, rectifier for the operation of relay coils at 24 volts D.C. The Contractor shall provide General Electric, #RR7, Control Relays rated 20 amps, at 277 volts AC. The required number of relays shall be as indicated on the drawings. Switching 1. Switching shall be in accordance to Title 24, State of California. 2. The preferred method of mounting switches will be with “On-Off” in a vertical direction with “On” at the top. 3. Where motion control may be used to control energy consumption, consider the use of the “Watt Watcher” or approved equal. Control Wiring Low voltage switching wire shall be a minimum of #20 AWG, as indicated on the drawings. Wiring routed in the space above the ceiling shall be plenum rated where the space is used as an open air plenum. ***END OF SECTION 16510*** 16510-rev0 16510 - 2 December 2004
