The Tabard Theatre Company at Theatre on San Pedro Square
presents
ELVES AND THE SHOEMAKER, A Musical Tale
SAN JOSE, Calif. (Nov. 12, 2013) – The Tabard Theatre Company presents the
world premiere of a new Broadway-style family musical, Elves & The Shoemaker,
A Musical Tale at Theatre on San Pedro Square November 29 – December 15
2013. Elves & The Shoemaker, A Musical Tale is Tabard’s second of three world
premieres presented in its 13th season, themed “Tabard with a Twist or a Turn.”
Elves & The Shoemaker, A Musical Tale is an original work written and directed
by Jennifer Packard, Tabard’s Education Director, with music and lyrics by local
composer Jeremy Harris. This production honors Tabard’s commitment to
presenting new works and works not commonly produced. Executive Director
Cathy Spielberger Cassetta approached Packard nearly a year ago to explore a
production for kids and their families for the 2013 holiday season. The result is a
musical twist on the popular Grimms’ fairy tale. “I’m thrilled that we are able to
provide a new theatrical adventure for families to enjoy together. We’re even
opening the show Thanksgiving weekend and running it until December 15th to
give families an entertainment option during the hectic days of shopping and
partying,“ commented Cassetta.
Packard added, “We took the two-page story, developed a rich storyline and
transformed it into a Broadway-style musical. Families will experience many
styles of music, including heartfelt ballads, a jazzy soft shoe number, a rousing
village polka and a wonderfully fun unique combination of percussion, movement,
and visual comedy by the elves when they are ‘Makin’ The Shoes’. When casting
the show, we had an opportunity to cast talented and experienced members of
several families. Being a family-focused musical, this was ideal.”
This enchanting musical transports the audience to Hoffenberg, a fairy tale
village preparing for their annual festival, where they are introduced to the
Shoemaker, his wife, the evil Landlord and the colorful villagers of Hoffenberg.
Enter five magical elves focused on their mission to bring the Shoemaker out of
his life of despair. They vow to remain in Hoffenberg until they are successful.
This heartwarming musical tale, presented in the very intimate Theatre on San
Pedro Square, will engage audiences of all ages and add delight to their holiday
season.
In keeping with Tabard’s mission to designate a local non-profit to receive a
portion of its concessions proceeds, the cast and staff of Elves & The
Shoemaker, A Musical Tale selected EMQ FamiliesFirst, an organization that
helps children and families at all levels of need, as its designated non-profit.
Tickets for Elves & The Shoemaker, A Musical Tale, running November 29 –
December 15, are available at www.tabardtheatre.org, or by calling 800-8383006. Advance purchase is strongly recommended.
