Electrocardiographic patterns in Brugada syndrome (BS). Only type 1 ST-segment elevation is considered diagnostic for BS when associated with clinical features such as syncope and spontaneous/inducible ventricular arrhythmias. Types 2 and 3 may indicate the presence of BS but drug challenge is required for diagnosis. The electrocardiograms in the right and left panels are from the same patient before (right panel, type III) and after (left panel, type I) intravenous administration of 1 mg/kg of ajmaline in 10 minutes.
