Sir Tim Rice to head Giggleswick Concert Line‐Up Sir Tim Rice will present the open‐air Hallé Orchestra Concert to take place in the North Yorkshire village of Giggleswick on Saturday 30 June. The Concert, which will also involve internationally renowned soloists Sir Thomas Allen, Sarah Fox and Barry Banks, will be conducted by James Burton. The concert programme of light classical music, operatic favourites and songs from the shows, including some songs written by Sir Tim, is designed to appeal to all ages. At the end of the evening the 10,000 strong audience will be treated to a spectacular fireworks finale against the backdrop of the hills and scars of the Yorkshire Dales. The Hallé are one of the world’s great symphony orchestras. Founded in Manchester by Sir Charles Hallé in 1858, it has been performing music around the world for more than 150 years. This, their first public open air concert in the Dales, will be staged by Giggleswick School to celebrate its Quincentenary; the biggest ever event in North Craven, will take place on its playing fields adjacent to the site of the first school, built in 1512. “Music has been an important part of the life of the School since its foundation over 500 years ago,” said Headmaster, Geoffrey P Boult. “We are honoured that friends of the School such as Sir Tim Rice and world famous performers like The Hallé Orchestra and Sir Thomas Allen are able to join us to mark this historic occasion.” Tickets for the Concert are available from the Richard Whiteley Theatre Box Office 1729 893 180 or halleatgiggleswick.co.uk. Sir Tim is no stranger to Giggleswick, having visited the School to see a production of Jesus Christ Superstar in the School’s historic Chapel back in 1999. Sir Tim is a patron of the Richard Whiteley Theatre, and is the second of its show business supporters to get involved with a performance at the School in recent months. In late 2011 the School also hit the headlines for its production of Sondheim’s Into the Woods which featured a performance by Dame Judi Dench.
