BEGINNING LATIN II
BULLETIN INFORMATION
LATN 110 - Beginning Latin II (3 credit hours)
Course Description:
Introduction to grammar and practical vocabulary necessary for fundamental reading skills.
Admission to 110 restricted to those who have completed LATN 109. Credit may not be
received for both 109/110 and 121.
Prerequisites: LATN 109
SAMPLE COURSE OVERVIEW
Latin 110, a continuation of Latin 109, is designed to offer you structured, sustained practice in
reading and analysis of basic Latin, as well as structured analysis of basic elements of the
English language. The course will provide classroom instruction, followed by outside
assignments designed to solidify concepts learned in class.
ITEMIZED LEARNING OUTCOMES
Upon successful completion of Latin 110 students will be able to:
1. Translate more complex Latin sentences; understand the passive voice and some basic
uses of the subjunctive mood;
2. Recite differing forms of words, with the understanding of what each form means;
3. Hear and respond to basic commands and short expressions;
4. Read with understanding longer paragraphs written in Latin; read select unmodified
Latin passages.
5. Continue exploring the relationship between the Latin language and the Roman cultural
context, as well as the impact of both on western civilization
